Best bet is a screen protector will save you aggravation down the road. And if the screen protector gets scratches you can easily put another one on
They ruin the smoothness and sleekness of a phone.
I keep my phones for exactly one year as I've been doing for quite some time with trade ins and now the Apple upgrade program.
And for that year I want the screen looking pristine every time I clean it with a micro fiber cloth. I've used em all over the last few years, anti glare, glass, full screen, etc etc.
Best screen protector I've used in the last few years is the Belkin Glass screen from apple. They put it on with the machine and honestly you can't even tell it's there. No dust, no air bubbles, no hassles of putting it on and worrying about any of those things. Yes it's $40 for the glass, but if I can't spend another $40 to protect my very expensive phone, I shouldn't be buying this very expensive phone in the first place.
Yes some will complain, hey it's up to you how you spend your money, and up to me how I spend mine. If someone is cool with a $10 screen protector off amazon, and is ok with dealing with putting it on...high five and good luck.
Just curious, how long has it been since you used one? I had a belkin invisiglass put on with their machine at the Apple Store, it is absolutely perfect and has the same feel as the screen.I don't prefer screen protectors from past usage. I don't like the tactile feel and I prefer the dislay just as it is when un-boxed. Fortunately no damage to date on any of my displays.

No, because I’ve always hated the way they look and feel. They ruin the smoothness and sleekness of a phone.
Still looks perfect, as my phones always so. Sometimes I’ll get a hairline micro scratch on a screen, but it’s rare and mostly unnoticeable unless you’re specifically looking for it at certain angles and reflections of light.
But then you have a case on your phone, so the sleekness and seamlessness is already ruined. An edge to edge protector with a case would basically look like there is no protector on the phone. I have seen people(including a genius at apple store once) get shocked when I tell them my phone(previous as well as the current iPhone) has a screen protector on top of it.

Yes, I always use a screen protector on my phones. I currently have a zagg sapphire defense on my x.
Edit: After reading reviews on the Belkin Invisiglass, surprisingly they're not very good at all. Now, I can't attest to everybody's situation and how they vary with using the screen protector from Belkin, but the majority are commenting on the poor durability and lack of customer service from Belkin standing behind the Product. (And these reviews were based on those having Apple apply them in store.)
But ultimately, I think it depends on how you treat your iPhone when it comes to the display. From somebody that owns multiple devices with iPads and iPhones, none of them have any scratches or damage to the display. I truly believe to how you care for your device. I think Apples displays are more than enough durable where I personally Don't require a screen protector.
I’m not.. sort of. I used one of those wipe on nano coating systems that came with a clear case. They claim it provides scratch protect for up to 12 months. So far everything it great. No sign of any scratches.
It’s been claimed by other users that it does indeed fill in minor micro scratches. I can’t speak to that as I applied it to my brand new X.Does it “fill in” minor/micro scratches?
