The display is spectacular - I've been doing kind of an ongoing impressions in the Verizon specific thread, but it's better than I expected (comparing it directly to a 7 and 6S+).

(Outside of the display, I'm thrilled with the camera and FaceID has been outstanding, including outside in direct 4pm Florida sun on my face ...)

So the display is really nice, but it for sure doesn’t melt your brain like my S8+. It’s well calibrated for “accuracy” but not attention grabbing, and eye candy pop. Photos just don’t do it justice. Photos are cropped for size for easy attachment which doesn’t help.

YouTube videos look shaper, more detailed and feature better colors than the 8+, but you do lose some content due to zooming if you want full screen.

And yes, just like I speculated the 8+ display is more immersive because it just looks and feels bigger. It’s very noticeable with typing on the keyboard and when watching video in landscape.

The viewing angle is horrible it’s yellow tint when you stare and a slight move goes white this is much worse than iPhone 7 it changes colour as you move this is poor and it’s so narrow going from plus is a massive down grade and Face ID doesn’t work when on side

Mine is the same.
When I look at it straight on there is a yellow tint, it’s horrible. When I tilt the phone away it goes to normal. Anyone know why???

There’s a new setting for further changing the display temperature. Under accessibility and display accommodations there is a slider called “hue”. Slide it to your liking. Makes a HUGE difference and you can basically mitigate color shifting at angles and match the “normal” temperature of LCD iPhones.

The Hue option is not available on my 7+ or 8+. It’s almost like Samsung’s color options. I’m actually impressed Apple gave the user that much control and flexibility over the display. Nicely done.

He is ********ting. For reference, here is the pixel structure of s6:

Here is Note 8:

And finally here is iphone x:

As you can see even the note 8 has more in common with the s6 than iphone x with an s6. The shape of green pixels is different and the size of subpixels is greater in iphone x than in both the s6 and note 8 (less black space between pixels)

He is probably bitter he wasnt’t given an iphone before launch, even though he pretends like he did not want to do a preview constrained by apples guidelines. In the past he was a cheerleader for nokia until a massive falling out with them. He is likely a paid cheerleader for samsung now.

Samsung makes a few grades of panels. Higher end and more expensive ones are use in the S8/note 8.

When said that X used the s6 panel doesn't mean those panels were manufactured during the time of s6 or exact the same from that time. It just mean the specs/grade of the s6 panel. Over the years Samsung may have adapted the specs, manufacturing process and lowered production cost for these s6 generation grade panels which are sold mid range panels.

We know of iphone X panel has lower ppi and brightness, and owners feedback of more pronounced colour shift and worse viewing angle are evidences that point to lower a grade panels than those used in s7/S8/note8.

At this point you’re definitely going off the deep end with this S6 panel notion which is throughly debunked at this stage.

However in looking at the S8+ vs X, the S8+ panel is definitely sharper to my eyes, but there is no pronounced color shift. At least no better or wose than my S8+.

I just think most iPhone users have no idea what they hell they are looking at and expected OLED to be something it isn’t. To me, and I’ve been staring at OLED displays since the Nexus S, the iPhone X panel is definitely one of the better ones on the market.

Then what about those pictures posted here of X that showed a pronounced blue shift? I never see such blue shift on S8+. You can clearly see half of the X screen goes blue at such low angle tilt

I've noticed blue/green trailing of black text whilst scrolling on white background, but only at night while reading with lights off.

Anyone else noticed this?

Allegedly, iPhone X is not quite as sharp as Plus screens due to the subpixel res being technically lower, but has much better brightness and color
I was wondering about that. Sometimes I see my 8 Plus looking better

I would think the pentile matrix in the OLED screen has a lot to do with the lack of sharpness (compared to the 8 plus)

What? iPhone X doesn’t have lower brightness, more color shift, or worse viewing angles than the S7/S8. I don’t know where you read that, but I own both and have compared them side by side. The X screen is every bit as good. Better actually, because it’s better calibrated. The gamma of Galaxy phones isn’t right and they don’t look very good when you switch them to their accurate color mode. And my Galaxy phones do exhibit blue color shift at angle just like the X. And they aren’t brighter than the X in real world circumstances either. The only time Galaxy phones can get brighter is when their displays are only showing content on 1% of the screen (1% APL) and 99% of the screen is black / off. In that case only, Galaxies will crank their brightness, for just those small number of lit up pixels, to 1000 nits. But when more than 50% of the screen is lit, Galaxy phones are around 600-700 nits just like the iPhone X. It’s sort of a cheat Samsung used to claim higher brightness, when in reality no one will ever see that brightness in a real world scenario.

Thanks for clarifying the brightness/nit confusion for me.

That’s good to hear!!

Comparing my good screen 7plus with my good screen X, I see zero reduction in sharpness or clarity

What lack of sharpness? My iPhone X looks at least as sharp, if not sharper, than my iPhone 7 Plus. Is this thread full of nothing but FUD and BS from people who are trying to justify their iPhone 8s lol?

If you have seen the S8/note 8 in extreme sunlight conditions you would not make such statement.

Anyway, for normal use 600 nits is more than enough. So in terms of brightness, X should be ok. Even in sunlight screen will be legible. But can it match the galaxy in terms of clarity under harsh sunlight? Most probably not if the oled is not the latest generation.

I hope so because I'm very exited about it. All I'm saying is I expected it to have the rich colors other oled phones have as so far all images of the X I've seen seem to have less vivid colors.
No, you're saying that "It doesn't really matter" what display you view the images on. Um, yes, it does. In fact, that and the image capture device are pretty much the only things that mattered at the point your comment was made.
