Is this a valid reason to exchange, or am I being too OCD? It really bugs me.

Thing is, there isn’t an Apple store near me so I’d have to call them and see if they’d ship me one.

Is this possible, that they would exchange for this reason?

Also, if they do send me another one, and it’s even worse, can I just keep the first one and try again?

What I would do, is make a Genius appointment at your nearest Apple store, and allow them to assess it, which they might replace right in store for you. Apple carries replacement units in store for defective devices.

When Apple sends you a device in the mail, then you have to send back your original device to them.

me it's the opposite on my iPhone 8, it moves when it is silent but not when it and ringing
