Yeah, I kind of did expect that. It looked like the 256GB model would be the most popular and you had Apple mentioning earlier this week that there would be stock available in-store. When they came out and said that, it kind of contradicted those recent analyst stories of very little stock, so it shouldn't really be a surprise?

everything in the UK direct from the apple store is 5-6 weeks now...but bear in mind all of apple UK iphones are SIM free phones, no carrier, fully unlocked.

Not in my area. I got in at 3:06 last night and the 12 closest stores in the New England area all were unavailable for in store pick up.

That’s true. But even the 256 beat my expectation. It was available after 4am eastern time.

Wow. I ordered at 3:15 (store wasn’t up for me til 3:08ish). I may do the math in this later, but I feel that the dc area has to have the most Apple stores/100,000 people so there are plenty to chose from.

But even with the 256, Apple said nothing. And we knew they'd delayed the launch of the X, presumably to make sure there were more units available for launch. The only people predicting absolute doom and gloom were journalists writing stories based on "sources", but this stuff just gets so much coverage, discussion etc where it becomes fact.

I think the modern technical term is “fake news, sad!”

I think it more about clickbait rather than fake news. Many articles these days mention Apple in the headline or somewhere in the article just to get the clicks - even if the article really has nothing to do with Apple or what they're saying is just speculation.

Not according to what I was looking at. 6-7 mins past 3AM EST was 2-3 weeks for all 256 models and around 334 it was 4-5 weeks.

I’m not talking about shipping. In store pickup was (and still is) available launch day.

Kind of a good sign - was hoping the high price tag wouldn't sell out asap. Apple can't be encouraged to charge this much for a phone...

I mean Apple announcing there would be stock in stores on launch day meant there was actual inventory this year, unlike the jet black 7 last year. For the first time in a while Apple under promised and over-delivered.

Yup even ATT's site still has 64gb silver ship by 11/3, and 64 gray/256 silver 11/2-11/10. The 256 gray is only model into early December.

Seems like pretty good ship dates for 5.5 hours later

I said it a few times on MR that I thought Apple had more stock then they were leading on

I think it depends largely on the configuration and the location. I'm sure this was not the case for most Apple Stores.
Agreed. In-Store pickup was gone within a matter of minutes in my area. And shipping dates slipped within 10 mins after the site went live.

What are you talking about? EVERY year there is a wave of rumors of thin stock. And then EVERY year Apple announces record sales at launch. So, EVERY year Apple under promises and over delivers.

I get that you are saying that having some in stores this year is special, but that's true every year too. There's always some in stores on launch day (except special colors, which might wait a bit longer).

Got an early morning pickup scheduled for November 3rd for a Space Grey 256GB iPhone X. Ordered around 3:06am EDT.

Glad I chose in store pickup. I just hope they guarantee these for pickup customers. Wonder how they will work the lines on launch day.

Apple will stock the stores with big inventory, long lines make Apple stocks go up, your chance to get an iPhone X on 11/3 is better in stores
