This is the one major thing that still bugs me about my X. We have all these cores and all this screen real estate but I STILL can’t watch YouTube/Netflix and read the internet or check emails at the same time.

Come on Apple.

Why would you want to? I could do that on my old android phones, I never did because it constantly gets in the way of other apps you’re trying to run.

Because these are media devices as well as phones. I like to listen to YouTube and read the internet.

Or at the very least, have the choice.

Not gonna lie, but PIP is AMAZING! I can hit the home button while watching YouTube, Netflix, etc, and it will just minimize and continue to play while i check a message, or between forum posts 😉
(Sorry about the notifications, haven't checked them in a minute)

Splitscreen apps on the other hand, doesn't feel as useful as PIP for me

I know, I have it on my Note 8 and S8. Wish my X had it too.

Genuine question, and no criticism intended at all, but why do you have three top of the line handsets, all released within the last ~6 months? (Particularly the two released within 9 weeks of each other)

I’ve always been curious as to the thought process.

With phones, could understand buying one and replacing with another in fairly short order, but having all three in operation seems counterintuitive- unless you have 3 phone lines? (Work, home etc)

I can understand 2 devices (one personal, one for work). But 3?!
😱😀😛

Ha, within arms length I have an iPhone X, 8+, 7+ and Samsung Galaxy S8+.

It's a hobby of sorts.

There’s no excuse for this for and from Apple. We also need split screen too!

Definitely.

I mean, I can divide my 65" 4K screen into 8 individual screens. It's an outrage that we don't have this ability on our iPhone X's, there are millions of pixels. Millions. I should be able to have 10 or 20 pictures-in-pictures.

No iPhones have it. They don't even have split-view apps. The X also lost homescreen landscape mode that the Plus models have.

Android had PiP for years using MoboPlayer from 2012. It wasn't officially a feature until Oreo like split-view wasn't until Nougat. Samsung had split-view since the Note II! iPads got split-view by iOS8 and PiP by iOS9.

The iPads can do it so the hardware is more than capable on the iPhone. Same as iOS, it can do it and it works well. It’s just a choice by Apple and shame to be honest. Would love to have the option, especially with YouTube!

This has to be something that comes in 11.3, or at the latest, iOS 12. PIP is awesome on the iPad, and I've ran into a surprising number of use cases where I just want to have a video playing while I do something else, like sorting through email.

I can sort of get why you wouldn't do multiple apps in landscape on the X (Though the plus has no excuse) because the screen height in landscape is so short, and if you need a keyboard you are blocking nearly the whole display. But PIP would be ideal.

That's something the individual app developers allow or disallow.

I have YouTube Red and I can listen to YouTube in the background while I'm going through mail, texting, websurfing, etc.

How to get YouTube PiP on iPad

Best Android Video Players (2015)

Honestly, PiP on Android Oreo still feels a little beta. If you want a better experience, you need YouTube Red Subscription. You can still get PiP for YouTube but it isn't with the mobile app. You need to use the Chrome app, go on YouTube, set it to desktop, and then go back to the homescreen. It's kinda hit and miss.

There are also Android apps to watch YouTube via PiP but it feels clunky. A better way is to use the split screen from Nougat instead. That's why I ended up getting GPlayer because I missed MoboPlayer's pop-up play. MoboPlayer has wake locks I don't like. Feel like it's a Chinese rogue app. GPlayer's menu sucks as it's sensitive but doesn't wake lock.

I believe Apple doesn't want to offer split-view and PiP on iPhones yet because they want to differentiate their iPads to their iPhones. That kinda sucks because iPhones are generally more expensive. But a couple features to toss to iPad users who have been enjoying both for years and Android / Samsung Note owners even longer.

Some current iPhone owners in 2017: "Who needs split-view apps and PiP? Those look useless! All that matters is the X is beautiful and perfect!"

^ Useless features to some until it finally arrives. Just like gesture swipes years back that they finally implemented over the archaic home button.

In fairness, PiP isn't really all that especially on Oreo right now. It can get annoying with GMaps. I showed my homescreen using GPlayer and QuickPic with Futurama and Family Guy yesterday. I believe split-view with two apps is more useful. YouTube PiP on Android still feels clunky. Better off split-screen.
