Of course T-Mobile works there using whatever Egyptian carrier. You will be roaming.

no i do not want to use a t-mobile sim , i am gonna put an egyptian sim ! will the egyptian sim work ?

As long as you have an unlocked iPhone it will work. Egypt is GSM like the rest of Europe. Have a good trip.

If they use GSM as you have suggested then you will be fine. However if they use CDMA you would have to buy a phone that supports those bands.

that's the question is the phone already unlocked or no ?

It should be unlocked but i cant be 100% sure. You would have to put another sim card in to test it.

Irrespective of whether its unlocked or not it depends on whether they use GSM or CDMA in Egypt. If they use CDMA and your phone is GSM it doesn't matter whether its unlocked or not, it still wouldn't work.
[doublepost=1512734306][/doublepost]After a quick google it looks like they use GSM in Egypt so you should be good to go once you have tested whether your phone is unlocked or not.

Hard to tell if anyplace outside the US is still dependent on CDMA for 2G/3G support. I see references to SK Telecom in SK, but that may be out of date. Regardless, there should still be GSM/LTE carriers available.

how to know if the 3g works on cdma ? the carrier i am gonna use is called " Orange Egypt "

It will more than likely be CDMA then which i don't think will work in Egypt if they use GSM.

Its the same reason i couldn't buy a iPhone X when i was in the US a few weeks ago as we use GSM in the UK and it wouldn't have worked.

I am sure someone will correct me if i am wrong.

It is NOT CDMA in Egypt. It is GSM.

If you paid full price for the X as I did from T-Mobile it is unlocked then. It’s only locked for folks that are paying monthly installments for their X with TMO.

The two SKU's sold in the US support the same GSM bands - the only delta is that the Sprint/Verizon models also support CDMA.

If your carrier is issuing SIM cards, then they're GSM. CDMA never used SIM cards...they used a burned in identity in the phone called an ESN.

The only question would be if the phone is unlocked....you should have brought an Orange Egypt SIM with you and used it to activate the phone.

Tmobile USA uses GSM tech. So that device is GSM and does not have any CDMA capabilities.
So if his tmobile iphone X is unlocked it will work with any GSM carrier in the world.
He just has to find out if its unlocked.
