I was just there earlier this year on my dream trip. Amazing experience.

Orange operates on GSM. All the carriers there are GSM. As long as your phone is unlocked, you will be fine.

I did not have a SIM, used my carrier international plan instead (due to misinformation), and still had okay service, mostly in Cairo. Didn’t need it much though, used hotel wi-fi and What’s App mostly. I met someone there who had a Skyroam that she swore by as well.

Enjoy your trip!

The two SKU's sold in the US support the same GSM bands - the only delta is that the Sprint/Verizon models also support CDMA.

If your carrier is issuing SIM cards, then they're GSM. CDMA never used SIM cards...they used a burned in identity in the phone called an ESN.

The only question would be if the phone is unlocked....you should have brought an Orange Egypt SIM with you and used it to activate the phone.

LTE also requires SIM cards.

LTE (Long Term Evolution) IS the latest iteration of GSM protocols. It was the planned meeting point to get the world off of divergent protocols (CDMA/GSM).

Yep, if you can put a different carrier SIM into a T-Mobile device (such as AT&T) and it works, then the device is unlocked. Have a great trip!
