My iPhone X - Space Grey, 256 GB model arrived at 815 AM Friday, November 3rd.

Everything was all set up and working fine until ...

Made a phone call to my mom this morning and she said she was really having problems hearing me.

Got off call, made a couple of Voice Memo recordings, barely audible. Rebooted phone, did same thing with same results.

Got Apple into chat support for 76 minutes, they had me restore as new phone, then I ran the same diagnostic by recording voice memo's (same problem hardly audible) - now a $1252.41 hold on my credit card awaiting replacement iPhone X.

Amazed truly by the lack of quality control - the last thing I didn't think would work was the phone & mic!

So truly - my iPhone X, flag ship of Apple, took an incredible dump.

There are duds that happen in every production. Impossible to reach 100%. Hopefully you get your replacement soon.

This is off topic, but I visit another forum specifically for greyhounds, retired racing dogs as pets. To an outsider it would seem that greyhounds have a horrible problem with cancer. There is literally hundreds of people on there who's dogs have cancer. In reality, greyhounds are pretty resistant to cancer, it's just the concentration and focus of the forum that makes it look that way.

People here are also more into their devices and thus more picky than the average user. I’ve seen plenty of iPhone displays in the wild that I would have returned had it been my own phone. I’ve pointed it out to some of them. They either didn’t notice to begin with, couldn’t see it even when pointed out or just didn’t care.

Honestly, I was a bit worried about the X manufacturing quality after interpreting from the interviews that this was somewhat rushed to market. Sorry to hear OP, it sure takes the wind out of the sails when you get defective product. My X is patiently waiting my return home from camp on Wednesday, I've yet to even see it, hope all is well.

To be honest I was thrilled at the iPhone X's performance and quality - I had it all set up and working fine.

I just had no idea the mic was bad till I attempted a call this morning. I know there are quality issues for every product manufactured.

My thread title was probably too sarcastic/bombastic for an enthusiast site like this - but I am so invested in the Apple eco system that I did find this a disappointment.

@Leonard1818 - thanks for your comments. I feel the same way as far as time invested and hassles endured. In the end - Apple still produces high quality innovative products. Apple did a good job in quick support and diagnosis with me, and I believe my new X (or XX) will be here by Tuesday hopefully.

I think this forum should reflect all sides - both negative and positive comments.

Forums like this are where problems seem worst of all! We are in no way representative of the whole.
That would make sense IF everyone wasn't here just talking on other things too. But they are, and they went from an older iphone to an X. And now so far I count 4 X's that have died. That is a large amount in just a forum. How many in the world? Probably a lot.

I totally agree that Apple produces world-class handsets and has stellar customer service. I’ll still be a customer. I’ve admitted that if it were MY upgrade to the X (versus for my wife), my tolerance would be a bit more as it always has been in the past.

It’s the combo of factors (pricepoint, initial DOA issue, hassle to get it resolved) combined with personal circumstance (the fact that it’s for my wife, the hardware changes, etc) as to why ultimately there is not one in my household.

It's unbelievable to me how many people here will attack posters in defense of Apple if there is even a hint of disappointment or critisism of Apple or an Apple product.

I LOVE Apple. I love ALL THINGS Apple. Doesn't matter, I just dropped over $1400 for a PHONE. I want it to be perfect. I'm disappointed when it isn't. I don't look for trouble, I don't take out a magnifying glass and inspect my new phone, watch, MacBook, but I would never just shrug my shoulders when my $1400 phone, or my $3500 MacBook, or my $550 watch has flaws, even if Apple has agreed to take care of the flaw.

These products come with high end prices, and I expect high end quality in return. I don't want to be inconvenienced with having a brand new product repaired or replaced. I buy these products for their quality and reliability and I expect them to deliver and when they don't I complain, and rightly so. If it were to happen enough times, I would stop buying Apple.

Happily, I seldom experience a problem with any Apple product I own. Even then, when it does occur, I am still disappointed and I still tell people about it. It's human nature, there is nothing wrong with it and it doesn't mean I am being overly critical of Apple or Apple products.

This site is not an enthusiast site. It is filled to the brim with pandering sycophants. You can expect nothing but bleating and accusations and endless whinging if you say anything that doesn't praise Apple here.
