The only time I miss Touch ID is when my phone is on a table or desk and I can't just put a finger on it to read my notifications, but instead have to lift the phone or lean all the way over for it to unlock. But in any other situation, I find FaceID to be much more reliable and faster than TouchID ever was for me.

Hi everyone - just as the question says, (particularly iPhone 6s and 7 users since there was faster Touch ID)

Do you miss Touch ID? This is the main thing holding me back from upgrading my 7.

I use Touch ID all the time for things like coffees and apps for banking and also using the London Underground.

I’m travelling to Canada this Christmas so the phone will be a BIT cheaper than the UK, just wondering if I’ll miss my 7?

Thoughts?

Is Face ID cumbersome compared to Touch ID?

I've had my X since launch day, and I don't miss Touch ID at all.

That is very interesting NONE of you miss it.
7 replies is hardly “none” of us.

If you had read through any of the dozens of threads on the same topic you would have a much clearer picture. Lots of people don’t miss it. Lots of people are less than thrilled with Face ID.

^^ This

If Apple could only add some kind of ambient display option like the Samsung/Google/LG always on display that would mitigate this issue for me. I fear they won't though I want to push people towards the apple watch

No, I don't miss it at all. I hated it. It was unreliable.

I think that's a bit exaggerated. Touch ID wasn't unreliable, however certain conditions made it unreliable at times in the sense of possibly having a wet finger or colder temperatures. But as far as reliability when protecting my security, touch ID worked perfectly well.

Yes in a way since it was a habit before but I am getting used to it since I know this phone is all about gestures so its in my mind. I think I will be fine.

Before launch I thought Faceid was going to be problematic and I was going to hate it. I love it now. Got used to it the same day I got the phone.

Yes is does, about a few milliseconds quicker. Who really cares? I don’t. I can open my phone without taking off my work gloves, now that is something i do care about ;)

FaceID is the future

It's not the "faster" that bugs me, it's the extra gestures. And I'm pretty sure you're right, FaceID is going to replace TouchID, at least for devices like phones. Computers, probably not, or not soon. Tablets - ??? Hard to guess, could go either way?

Im pretty sure the next MacBooks are gonna have FaceID

They will sell it: “As soon as you open the lid you are in, it is as simple as that!!!”

I was really worried about missing Touch ID because for me it worked 99.9% of the time and I really thought nothing could top it in terms of ease of use. I was wrong. FID is wonderfully simple and like most things Apple, just work. It will improve over the years just as TID did and will be gold standard.

Well said. Apple has been setting gold standards since the first iPhone! FaceID will be next

Unfortunately they won’t, FaceID will completely replace the TID in the future. They won’t be bringing anything back, Sd Card, headphone jack etc, once it is gone it will be gone.
it must be nice to know everything. but, i'll keep hoping, if that's alright with you.

its now a thing of the past . Although annoyingly i still use it, as work phone is 6s+ and its highly unlikely that would change anytime soon
