Apple always does this: They give you a choice between not quite enough and far more than you will ever need. As many have said, 128 GB would be ideal.

i'm using about 45 GB on my iPhone 6, and most of that space is used by photos and video. I shoot most of my photos and video with a dedicated camera, so I import my iPhone stuff into the same Lightroom collection on my desktop. From there I back it up. So technically I can regularly delete a lot of photos and video from my phone. That has helped, but it still becomes a bit of a chore. I stream most of my music from Google Play (I let it scan my ripped CDs with music-match so now it knows what I own). I also download and listen to a lot of podcasts, and have to clean those up to make room.

64 GB has been plenty for me, but I'm coming from an iPhone 6, and the iPhone X has a much higher resolution camera. Since I do take a lot of photos and videos, the larger file sizes will have an impact... especially if I shoot 4K video. New hardware also means temptation to try out games and other entertainment (AR and VR) that take advantage of the new tech. 256 GB provides much more room to play, so that's what I'm going with. Even with normal usage I would expect to be running low on space within 6 to 8 months if I stay with 64 GB... unless I'm good about cleaning out the junk. There is something to be said for decluttering your device though.

At least they stopped selling those criminally inadequate 16gb models!

Back in the iPhone 4 days the choice was between 8, 16, and 32 GB. The 16 GB was the Goldilocks size since 8 was enough for most people and 32 was overkill. Later 16 GB became the smallest size and most needed 32 or 64. Today we are missing that Goldilocks size that many past iPhone models offered. 128 GB would be just right.

Then again, for people who never delete photos or videos, 256 is probably a good idea with the higher resolution camera and 4k video. Even if they are diligent about cleaning up photos... imagine you go on a two week dream vacation and you only take your iPhone X to use as a camera. You are taking photos and shooting video like crazy. You will burn through 64 GB a lot faster than you think.

so what do you think the resale value of iPhone X next year when the X-2 comes out? Im asking coz I’m still debating if I should get the X, and I’m torn between 64 or 256. But I’m also thinking the X-2 will be a more refined and better iPhone X version. I don’t know. Maybe I’ll go with 64 if I plan to sell the X next year, I wonder how much I can resell it for to get the x-2

Imo returns on 256 for that extra 150 forked over will be diminished

But going back to iPhone 4 days is going back to days of a smaller (in size) OS, smaller graphic and video files and smaller app file sizes. I had a 32gb iPhone 4 and 4S and they seemed huge. Everything has inflated. A 16gb iPhone 4 was really adequate. A 16gb iPhone 6, five models later, was not (at least in my opinion/for my needs).

I use to game lots on my iPhone since the iPhone 4 16GB, lots of Gameloft games which came large in sizes. Personally I've never needed the max capacity storage.

My iPhone 6 was 64GB and I never found that I was running out of space but saying that, I do have a 64GB iPad, where most of my games now reside, plus a Nintendo Switch:) so the only games i play on my phone now are quick; pick up and play games like Clash Royale so I was fine opting for the 64GB iPhone X. Also I stream most of my content and store pictures and videos in the google cloud, YMMV.

I do agree that Apple should have given a 128GB option.

That was exactly my point, and why I said more people should probably be getting the 256. The photo and video file sizes are much bigger than before... huge if you shoot 4k video. I didnt mention that everything else has gotten larger too (OS and app sizes), but I thought that was obvious. :)

The thing is back in the iPhone 4 days we had 3 choices and the middle choice was very popular. It was also a time when 16GB was enough for most. Today I think most people will be surprised at how quickly they use up 64GB on the iPhone 8 and X. 64GB was fine for the 6 and 7. I don’t think it will be enough on the new models without some regular cleanup.

Sorry, managed to miss the fact that we were agreeing. :) Your point bears some thinking while I'm still in the (generous holiday) return period. I looked at how I was using my 128gb 7 and feel comfortable that 64gb is enough, but being wrong about fixed storage is really aggravating and can be very expensive (cost of replacing the phone or computer, when we're talking about Apple products).

Doubtful. It's the reason I upgraded from a 32gb ip7 to 256gb. Hopefully 128gb becomes the lowest capacity and we get a 512gb option. These app updates + 4k video is a storage space killer.

I’ve got the 64gb and it’s good enough cut me. I have an iPad Pro 256gb and my last iPhone 7 was 128gb, huge mistake!

I’d be more worried about burn-in.

If you stream music, space isn't an issue. But if you install a lot of games and download music I would go for the 256.
