Just wondering if the iPhone XR will get a price cut this fall when new iPhones come out? Or will Apple cancel it?

I would love to get an iPhone XR down the road for less than the current prices. Curious.

What is anyone’s guess on Apple’s iPhone lineup this fall?

iPhone 11 (2 sizes to replace XS)
iPhone XS (my guess is discontinued?)
    iPhone XR (Price cut?)
iPhone 8 (Update to SE 2? Price cut?)
    iPhone 7 (discontinued?)

like the last 10 years either $100 price drop or discounted but still available at other resellers (where u can find it already cheaper)

I think the XR will probably stick around with a roughly $100 price cut, and there will be a new XR (XRS?, XIR... what would they call it... Apple has really made a convoluted mess of their iPhone names) with an A13 chip and dual lens camera to replace the current XR’s price point.

XS & XS Max will be discontinued and replaced by updated versions.

8/Plus will stick around and replace the 7/Plus at the lowest price point. The updated 8 (SE 2 you mention above) won’t show up until 2020 sometime at which point the 8 series will be discontinued as well.

Thanks, this all makes sense. And yeah the names suck. I wonder if they’ll ever go with iPhone “Pro” for the high end models

There’s zero reason to believe the XR will be canceled, and in all likeness, I expect the XR likely already be starting in production for the second version in the next two months, likely offering the dual camera in the fall. For Apple to cancel the XR, that would be a _massive_ mistake, as they need to have an underlying phone below the XS, simply for the Chinese market and to have a middle tier iPhone when the XS is too expensive for many.

Agree, the XR is the best selling phone currently. DOUBT they'll get rid of it

I’m sure we will see a price cut, the trade in value will also be cut though.

I can't see Apple lowering their current price points since Samsung and Google are charging a ton for their flagship devices. I suspect this year's prices will look like this:

    iPhone 8 - $499
    iPhone 8 Plus - $599
    iPhone XR - $649
    iPhone 11R - $749
    iPhone XS - $899
    iPhone XS Max -$999
    iPhone 11 - $999
    iPhone 11 Max - $1099

I generally agree that the lineup will look like this in Fall 2019, except that I expect that the XS & XS Max will be discontinued (although much like the X they will probably still be widely available at carriers & 3rd party retailers at a good discount for months after the fact, just not for sale at the Apple Store).

They’d have to discontinue the Xs/Max, it would be counterproductive if they didn’t, because when they introduce the two new iPhones (XS/Max), they don’t want older models that are discounted to detract away from the newest iPhones. And, I also expect some type of pricing-restructuring along with revampEd trade-in policies to be discussed during the keynote as well.

There’s zero reason to keep the XR in Apples lineup, not when they’re going to be introducing basically the same phone again, with a dual camera for the same price. The first GEN XR would only detract away from the second GEN version of the XR.

I really think Apple will continue selling the XS, XS Max and XR; they've always continued selling the previous generation of phones at a lower price in the past, except for the 5C and X. With phone sales dropping drastically, why not have a phone in every price point to lure buyers to upgrade.

I see your counterpoint and I’m not saying it doesn’t make sense, I just see it from a tactical side where Apple likely will discontinue the current XS with introduction of the iPhone 11, mainly because it’s their ‘top’ iPhone models. Although, it is possible they could keep the XR in their lineup, but if the changes are so minimal with the 2019 XR, that means they would be slashing the price point to $650, then I think the consumer would naturally choose the first GEN XR, unless they want the dual camera on the 2019 XR.

XR will probably get discontinued and Apple will bring out XI R with groundbreaking 1080p screen in 2019

Slightly revamped XR is imminent. If it's not dramatically different (it won't be), they'll probably discontinue the old one. This isn't the old Apple anymore, where they always keep the old phone and just bring down the price $100-200. I think what they did with the iPhone 7, 8, and X is more relevant here. If I'm not mistaken they discontinued those devices when there was no need to keep them around. They kept the 8 as a legacy option for those who didn't like/want the redesigned face ID/screen size/price of the new lineup of phones.

There was the (sketchy?) rumour interpreted to mean the XS series would stick around this time rather than being immediately replaced like the X was (I think the way it was worded made it sound like the XS/Max would be updated internally this year, but that's very unlikely). With a few storage configuration tweaks potentially they could entice people up from the XIR to the Xs for around $100 more.

    XI/Max - 64GB - $999/$1,099
    Xs/Max - 32GB - $849/$949
    XIR - 64GB - $749
    XR - 32GB - $599
    8/Plus - 32GB - $449/$549
7/Plus - third party retailers only, taking place of 6s.

Now while 8 separate models across 5 series seems a little excessive, it only matches the lineup last year when we had SE, 6s/Plus, 7/Plus, 8/Plus, X.

I agree. As an example, There’s just no likely logical reason for them to keep the 2018 XR in the lineup with the 2019 XR, there really isn’t any suspected value to keep both of those models in their lineup, because they’re too Close together in competition of what they offer and the 2019 XR is not really expected to gain that much of a upgrade (Other than the dual camera), especially if Apple wants to keep the price the same at $750. And naturally, _if_ Apple were to keep both the 2018 and 2019 XR together in their lineup, the consumer will going choose the cheaper priced XR.

Regardless of whether Apple discontinue the XR in favour of its successor, you’ll still be able to pick an XR up cheaper and you’ll get a great phone. You can still get the iPhone X brand new through my carrier now and that was discontinued 8 months ago by Apple.

Yeah 2018 XR and X will be good buy's for sure. Doesn't look like apple will be introducing a faster Face ID yet at this point either, so I really can't see much reason to buy (the new phone's) in 2019 at all.
