iPhone XR is IP67 rated whilst the 11 gains IP68.

What do you mean?

IP67<IP68

IP67 = Water resistant to a depth of 1 meter for up to 30 minutes
IP68 = Water resistant to a depth of 2 meters for up to 30 minutes

I meant this reply for "yossi", sorry for the confusion iGeek2019.

Water resistance is the most meaningless spec ever since Apple refuses to honour it with a warranty. It's just encouraging people to take risks with their phones so they might have to buy new ones.

New iPhone can survive falls of 100 metres!!!!*
*warranty void if phone detects fall greater than 0.1 metres

I'm tempted to finally upgrade my 8 Plus and I'm tempted by the iPhone 11 but will I notice the difference with the lower resolution screen?

I’m in the same situation. I’ve decided to try the iPhone 11. If I do notice a difference in the screen quality I will return it. I hope I don’t though because the Pro Max is too expensive.

*edit* just like with Google Night Sight, this isn’t for moving subjects, you have to hold still a few seconds using this app!

Here’s a good Night Mode solution for $2.99, I bought it for my iPhone X and it works really well:

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/neuralcam-night-mode-camera/id1474856599

Quick test I did last night, standard Camera app vs NeuralCam:
View attachment 857465

Those pinkish-purpelish artifacts on both sides of rug(?) as a result of low DR and drastic NR look horrible. Wondering how this compares with Night Mode in 11 / Pro.

I never understood the power efficiency gains in relation to battery

So the 11 with a13 has 40 percent efficiency gains but only yields one hour more battery (and that’s the marketing claim, too) with same screen and resolution and all the rest except a dual camera? How does that make any mathematical sense?
It always says 'up to' 40% less power consumption. Meaning that some tasks can be carried out using 40% less power. This could be something like doing face recognition in the background now is possible with 40% less power consumption. And in particular things like running the display (ie, generating the brightness) won't get more efficient by any kind of processor improvements. There can be improvements in the efficiency of the graphic chip, but actually illuminating the display (which on an LCD is the brightness of the backlight) won't be affected by this.

I will only buy the flagship models but was wondering does the 11 has same ugly bezels as Xr?

How long did it take you to adjust. :apple:

Maybe a week. The thing I noticed the most was the time looking like it was in a bigger font due to the difference in resolution. Now that I don’t have my 7 Plus anymore to compare it to, I don’t notice it anymore.

11 is the obvious choice over XR when you got an older model. But can't get my head around that I have to buy a 11pro with 256gb when I just want to have the smallest screen possible (currently 7). Smaller 11 would have been perfect even so when the display would be worse than my current and still has no usb-c. So its either way overspending for something I don't kneed or buy the 11 and arrange with this ridiculous size since my 7 is dying.

Exclusive to 11. Requires the better cameras.

The better cameras are not required. The only requirement is Apple will not enable it on previous iPhones. Google is doing this with 3 year old Pixels with the Snapdragon 825 which is infinitely slower than an A11 in the iPhone X. This could have been pushed all the way to the iPhone 7.

Still xr gets excellent battery life and I’d expect no less of the 11

Most of the power drain is the screen. It's a 40% savings on processing data.

How does this compare to the Xs?

The 11 is nearly better than even last year's XS in every way.

A13, 802.11AX, Intel 7660 Modem, 2x2 MIMO but you still get Gigabit LTE and LAA ( both missing in XR ), without the Mess of 4x4 in last year's XS. Better Camera with Night Mode, Better Front Camera, U1 Chip ( I think this could be game changer ), IP68 water resistant and time that is the same as last year's XS, and double of XR. Dolby Atmos Support. Slightly Larger Battery.

Not confirmed ( I didn't check )
Wider Angle Face ID, not sure if it is on 11 as well. Better Taptic Engine, might not been worth mentioning for Apple. Better Speaker.

Basically apart from OLED Screen, you are getting a better Xs for $300 off the price.

Have to add for advantages for the Xr is the blue color. Was planning on getting a blue 11. :(

Would not be surprised if the spatial awareness stuff and the wide angle 2nd camera gets used for AR stuff in the future (was really surprised they didn't do something with it during the keynote - cause otherwise a zoom camera would be a no brainer choice for a 2nd camera).

It's still retina resolution (the same resolution (dots per inch) as the base 8). I had a 8 Plus and didn't notice the difference with the Xr.
I always go for the top models, but the colors choices are terrible on the 11. Faded and ugly.. yuck. I wish they'd add bright colors for the Pro models. Bright blue, orange, green, purple. Sick of boring white or grey. (Gold is fugly.. not at all an option for me)

Just what I needed. Thanks.
Looks like I'll probably stick with the XR.

I see no reason to upgrade from my XR with these new phones.

As time passes, the changes and upgrades will become less compelling. The camera upgrades do nothing for me, all I take are snapshots of stupid stuff like a trip to the zoo, or a day at the beach.

As Apple has obviously noticed with the price drops, people are seeing less and less reason to upgrade their phones. When the balance comes between price, features, and the cost of a new battery, that will be the tipping point.

Phones are becoming (if they weren't all ready) toasters. If it toasts, it toasts. You don't buy a new one until the current toaster no longer toasts, or someone comes out with a toaster that makes the perfect bagel in 6 seconds, with cream cheese on it and wrapped to take to work.

Apple is smart to get into the services business. Eventually, the phones will be "loss leaders" used to lure people into the services, as opposed to profit makers themselves...

What does it mean by it having "Dolby Atmos Sound"? Does it just mean the phone plays it from it's own speakers, can it be connected to a surround system or headphones to play?

Yeah that’s a good shout. I might go to an Apple Store and do a comparison between the two before buying one. I hate the thought of spending over 1k for a phone so fingers crossed the 11 is good.

11 is obviously the XR successor, but why not keep selling their inventory for another year and stretch their stack to cover the entire pricing spectrum.

I exchanged my XS Max for a XR early on. It was absolutely the right call for me.

I'm curious - why

Why in a bind next year? 8+ should be good with iOS for another 3 versions (i.e. 13, 14, 15).

Agreed. I'm just creating a hypothetical as in if it dies. If it were to suffer a catastrophic failure this time next year and it was still available would buying another 8+ last me another 3-4 years with iOS? That is all I am concerned with from that perspective. I'm not a power user by any stretch of the imagination. :apple:

Will we finally be able to authorize more than 1 face in faceid?

It’s very useful at times for my wife and I to both have an accepted finger on touchID.

Im confused, this thread is stating that iphone 6-7-8 plus screens are better than 20182019 iPhone XR-11 screens ?

Those screens have higher resolution. The 8/8+ series is actually probably the most underrated iPhone model. They ended up selling very well over the two or three years, are built great, run fast, have great screens and cameras. Wireless charging, etc.

Funny how they always test the battery life for video streaming an listening to music. Might give good results. Try using it for web browsing, business apps and mail and you end up with figure half or one-third of what they advertise. Crossing my fingers 11 Pro would last through one normal work day without charging. If not, back it goes.

Disappointed in new phones will need to swipe for burst mode. Burst mode is my most used function. This is where I wish Apple would implement some preferences. Wide angle in stead of telephoto is....just weird. All their prior 2 camera phones were telephoto plus normal and now? They must want the telephoto to be an up-charge.
