Hey macforum users,

I had a question actually. Will the iPhone XR 2 coming this year have a 1080p screen? I know the telephoto lens is coming, but wanted to know if it would have the same screen as the current iPhone XR or a 1080p display
 
If I had deep knowledge in advance of the supply chain for the next iPhone, I surely wouldn't give it to you for free.
 
The 2019 iPhone Xr will drop the X and just be called iPhone R. It will also come in two sizes. One exactly the same size as the current Xr, same screen and design for the most part, but updated internals. The other one will be smaller, an SE sized phone with the same design and upgraded internals, but a 4.7" 324ppi edge to edge screen at 693x320pts and 1386x640px with @x2 rendering) and will be called R mini. :D

They'll drop the X.

There will be a coloful version called the iPhone C, and a very powerful version called the AP (All Performance).

The best version of the phone, combining the R, the Color and the high performance will be the iPhone C R AP.

Its probably going to be the same screen

based on:
Apple keeping the same screen in iPhone 5 -> 5c,5s -> SE

same screen OG iPhone -> 3G -> GS (+oleophobic coat)

same screen iPhone 4 -> 4S

same screen iPhone 6 -> 6s (+3D Touch, +ion X glass) ->7 (+P3 gamut, +more nits) ->8 (+true tone)

They might improve the glass but current rumours are same screen, same notch, with the higher end models getting a slightly slimmer notch. Who knows though, pretty silent on that front.

It makes sense to keep the same screen, as it is a known cost and streamlines the supply orders and production as opposed to yearly having new screens

Plus, if they bring a 1080p display the gains will likely be minimal compared to the cost to ask JD to make new screens that are a minor upgrade. No they aren't 1080p but it doesn't matter in real world use. The PPI on the XR is already more than the 2018 iPads that people rave about. It is fine.

It is rumoured to have a dual lens camera though, as opposed to the single lens camera it currently has

No, Apple decided to introduce a new cheaper 480p version to show all pixel peepers it will still sell better than an XR :p
 
I’d bet that if there’s a second XR it’ll be mostly the same. I’d also suspect the camera will remain a single lens, as many rumors point to only the next Max model getting three lenses. Apple wouldn’t shoot themselves in the foot by having the “budget” option get the same camera as the $999 model.

Based on this year's sales performance, I think Apple would be shooting themselves in the foot if they didn't put in dual lenses.
 
I think they should just match the XS resolution at 458ppi, even if they have to raise the price to $799. 1080p would just be downscaled from a 3-point (458ppi) resolution so it uses the same resources and doesn’t look as natural.

XR Plus with dual cameras and a 458ppi resolution at $799 would be a great phone, especially if they add 3D Touch or improve Haptic Touch so it’s as functional as 3D Touch. The Plus moniker might get confusing if it’s the same 6.1” size as the current XR but an upgraded model at a higher price point would mean there’s room in the lineup to keep the current XR at a new $649 price.

Definitely not. I think the XR will be here at least through 2019, and I say that because Apple _needs_ to have a cheaper offering under the iPhone XS. The majority of Consumers are not willing to spend a $1000 on smart phone, which has already been proven with a saturated market. The XR is the middle ground phone that is quite competitive in what offers against the XS, and most of Apples competitors are offering 6” smart phones, which the XR also offers.

It’s not even that it’s because it’s the ‘top-selling iPhone’, Apple has to have an underlying phone cheaper under the XS. They have to have a middle ground phone, and the XR is that phone. There’s too much of a gap between $1000 phone and the iPhone 8, they have to have another phone in the midst of between those phones.

Yeah, Agreed. That coupled with all of this. I don’t think there’s any question there will be another Xʀ.

I mean apple would be crazy ... right?
