So...out of curiosity, any theories (or firm answers?) on why Apple never includes these RAM and battery details in their published specs? I don't particularly care if they do or not, but it seems odd to me since they obviously know that tear downs are going to happen ASAP and then we will all know anyway. Why so secretive!?

With the battery drama over the past few years I am amazed they went smaller in the Xs. Is something taking up more space inside the new case?

I'm curious about this too, especially with a die shrink. It seems to be the Apple way, the 6S got smaller than the 6, then the 7 was bigger than both, then the 8 got a smaller one. It's confusing

XR has the longest battery life of the three new models. Seems like a homerun on top of other homeruns for the XR.

Sales will be incredible.
I would wait for the reviews before you judge the battery life. Apple's battery figures have never really been accurate. The iPhone 7 is quoted 12 hours of internet use, whereas the XS Max is quoted 13 hours. That doesn't seem right at all.

How in the world does the XR have better rated battery life than the XS Max considering the battery is smaller and it has a LCD screen?

It’s pushing a LOT fewer pixels and has less RAM. It may also throttle the cpu clock more often. I believe it’s also 2x2 memo instead of 4x4, and with decreased bandwidth comes decrease power (sometimes. Depends on workload, because sometimes that means the radios are just on longer).

Probably with max brightness and very heavy use. My 6s plus can easily get 6 hours SOT with medium, day to day use.
Yeah but you get like 6 hours of SOT with max brightness and very heavy usage on the Note 9.

Efficiency aside, a 4000mAh battery would have provided longer life on the XS Max than the existing battery. That being said, it sounds like the camera assemblies for the XS and XS Max extend deeper into the casing than on the X allowing improved performance so perhaps the battery pack on the X extended behind the camera assembly and this is not the case with the new models?

It does not https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/iPhone+X+Teardown/98975#s182778

The iPhone had 2GB of RAM when the iPad Pro launched with 4GB of RAM. Now that the iPhone has 4GB of RAM, I'm wondering if the iPad Pro will have 8GB of RAM? Useful for having lots of layers in design files and working with large RAW files or keeping lots of apps loaded in the background while multitasking. But considering how efficient iOS is, 6GB would probably be fine for now and probably strikes a better battery life/performance balance.

This phone has more computing power than the current Mac mini.
Mac Mini aside, the benchmark on my current X comes close to my 2015 15” MacBook Pro. Granted we should always take Geekbench scores with a critical eye, however the single processor score nearly matches it, and the Multi core is only slightly behind.

Not saying the phone is a better computer, but with some tasks such as editing video in Luma Fusion v.s. Final Cut Pro, the phone is plenty fast.

Probably because the battery is larger. I imagine the iPhone is more efficient in moderate usage, especially since it has those low-power cores
But that's the point, it has a larger battery and the iPhone doesn't to match other flagships.

The RAM on the phones is inside the SoC. So Apple have to have a separate part for the Xr. Does this really save money? I suspect this is a move to have the Xr become laggy with future OS releases.

I thought OLED screens were more power efficient than LCDs because they don't require a backlight? This sounds like a crock.
id assume they are if the ui was more black. Apples ui isnt optimized for an oled one bit. its all too bright

They want to advertise in terms of consumer experience, not technical specifications. They advertise battery life in hours, not mAH. They don't even advertise RAM, but rather boast about the smooth user experience itself. They likewise don't advertise how many Ghz the A12 is for instance.

That's in part because that's what consumers really care about, but also simply because a variety of other phones can beat or match the iPhone in terms of those specifications. Apple is selling the integrated experience, and being able to make more of any given set of technical specs than other manufacturers can.
