take it to apple store and see what they say. tell them isnt this meant to be sapphire? I didn't even drop it.
It's a new phone, they'll likely be nice to you.

Same thing happened to my wife's 6 back when she had it
Sapphire cracks more easily than regular glass. Sapphire is extremely scratch resistant but it is brittle due to it’s hardness.. The lens on the iPhone is some sort of sapphire hybrid(close enough that it is “technically” able to be called sapphire)and not pure sapphire so it has been shown to allow scratches at a lower point on the mohs scale than real sapphire.

you don't need to disassemble the phone... you use heat and and blade to free up the lens and then put the new lens back in. since it's already damaged, if you mess up the lens more it won't void anything.

I'm almost positive that if I gave you some money, you could order the back plate off Amazon, New-egg, Ebay, or whatever website you could order the glass back plate, install and it would be like new. Unfortunately we are not all like you who would do that with those type of skills. It would be better for people like us to pay qualified people to do it professionally with a warranty in case it breaks, or doesn't work.

The bezel for the rear camera is secured to the inside of the phone so the rear glass is not something you want to try and replace.. As @Ebok stated, the only way would be to heat the glass and pry it out which is easier said than done due to all the debris from removing the glass piece by piece..

Which is why I would only trust you, or Ebok to do as a family member, or friend. To us regulars this would not work out so well. We would rather pay a professional to do it, unless u guys would do it.

Thanks for the vote of confidence but I wouldn’t mess with a repair like that only because there’s too high a chance that water resistance is gone and broken glass is a pain to remove completely without leaving debris that may hurt the cameras performance or clarity... I’d just get an out of warranty replacement which definitely dents the wallet.

lol, i'm far from a professional, but with patience i'm sure it can be accomplished by anyone with steady hands.

all i'm saying is that the glass is already damaged. damaging that piece more isn't going to increase your costs for a repair (a replacement cause they don't do those kind of repairs in house). even if you damage any other part of the phone while attempting this it will still be the same out of warranty fee.

...And I'm sure for you with family and friends you would be able to find the necessary replacement online and fix it. Unfortunately the majority of us lack the tools, skills, intellect and patience to pull it off.

I’ve seen jerryrigeverything replace the camera outer glass and it was fun to watch. Don’t think I’d go that route considering how well the glass was secured to the bezel. He used a utility knife to chip out all the glass but removing the tiny chips that were stuck to the adhesive looked almost impossible due to the exposed camera lenses and lack of room to scrape. He even said it wasn’t a pretty repair

I’m a mechanical engineer and I’d sooner throw the phone in a canal than try and take one of these iPhones apart and repair it lol. So many screws and glue to make sure Apple know if they’ve been tampered with. No thanks lol.

If you have someone like @Ebok why not take that chance? If the phone is new and costs over 1,200 Great British Pounds it's worth fixing IMO.

No idea how this has happened. Not even dropped the phone or had it in my pocket with keys

From what I’ve seen it will cost £265 to replace but who knows this might be more...no apple care either. Screwed.com as I’m on an annual upgrade with EE so i imagine they will charge me full price for when i trade it in as well

Well this seems to be happening more and more and Apple does not want to take responsibility for their engineering error

I among many other people have also had this problem, I was even told by support rep that I should give feedback to Apple about the problem that they may do something about it.

Well when I posted in Apple forums under a post about the same problem and told them to leave feedback with Apple, they deleted my post

I wrote another post explaining in detail why they are having this problem and they again deleted my post

So it seems to me Apple is deleting any negative post about this lens to hide the fact that they made a mistake.

I have been with Apple many years and spent many thousands of dollars on their products, but the way they are handling this makes think twice about staying with them.

It’s easy to replace the lens. As stated earlier you need heat, steady hands and patience.

If you don’t want to open the phone, be sure to clean the inside of the new lens before sealing it up.

I hope the telephoto sensor isn’t damaged by the glass shards. Seen it happen many times.

Well after writing this thread I have only just sorted the replacement out which arrives tomorrow...just used my insurance to make a claim. Cost me 120 quid here to get a new one set out...
