LOL. This person was sitting on his phone all the time. Maybe something inside got a damage and the battery a hole. And you know what happens when the battery gets a hole.

One instance shouldn’t be concerning to anyone.

It’s Not unless it’s widespread. I think some think Apple products ‘never have problems’ or they ‘must be perfect’, when all tech products have some intermittent failures at some point or another, and it’s not just smart phones, but almost anything tech related. If it becomes to the point where it’s an outbreak of iPhones that are all experiencing the same problem and affecting users on a level where it requires attention from Apple, then that is different.

where was it said that the person sat on the phone?

at least this is the very first and only burns we know.
To be honest, everything with a battery will have a chance to burn,
[doublepost=1546352415][/doublepost]He has a chance to get a shut-up-take-my-******-money chance, that is why he wanted to make it a news
If the owner thought they had permanent damages to his body, he should consult with a lawyer before he surrendered the iPhone. If no permanent damage, might as well hand it over to Apple for replacement.

Problem with his legal battle will be what he lost and suffered. Not worth suing over a pair of pants and his burns could not have been that serious as the defense will point out he went to the Apple store first and did not seek medical intervention. Best he can hope for is a new phone and pair of pants, he is not going to win the lottery!

“Vent with flame”. Regardless of the legitimacy of this incident it’s a real thing. I don’t think people realize what they’re holding.

Having taken a Li-Ion battery apart and shorted it out in a controlled environment (sand, gloves, glasses) --- agreed. These batteries are scary when they get going, nothing stops them until they're out of energy. That fruity smell of the battery, quite interesting, though I can't imagine healthy. lol. It was a little LG 2000+ mAh pack and wow it put out heat even though I was far away.

Bending the phone and puncturing the battery = bad news for any phone with a battery.

Concerning? Buh buh if it was Android?

Lithium batteries have a NATURAL failure rate of roughly 1 in 10 million on the high end of estimates. 1 total story is FAR from concern or a note 7 situation.

Lithium-ion batteries have a failure rate that is less than one in a million. The failure rate of a quality Li-ion cell is better than 1 in 10 million.
https://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/safety_concerns_with_li_ion

Further per this article, a recall rate is roughly 1 in 200,000 for batteries.

Yup, ruptured Li Ion battery.

Hurry up on those solid Li Ion battery mass manufacturing solutions.

Can cut those in half with no adverse effect except less voltage.
