I agree unless you're blind the far left is the best photo with the best color and contrast. The shirt iand face arent blown out.

If you zoom in just a bit, the shirt on the photo on the left has no detail at all. The center photo has more detail in the shirt (look at the send button down from the top on the is fastened). A slight exposure adjustment would have nailed the middle exposure.

The Xs camera, especially the front facing camera is leaps and bounds better than the X camera. The X struggled in low lit areas and bright sunlight.

Are the people posting these threads even owners of the new phones? Seems unlikely

The OP doesn’t even own the XS/or XS Max, they own an iPhone X, so they merely are making their claims based off looking at others photos off the Internet and not their own results. I personally would make a better judgment call actually using the XS/XS Max itself versus looking at someone else’s photo’s.

Sigh. Again. Here is a pic I took with a Xs Max. I cropped the picture. A lot. There is no smoothing. I don't get the whole smoothing phenomenon. IMG_0058.jpg

I also posted a thread on this, the selfie camera does apply a filter or something and makes the image look soft, not as detailed for sure. Surprised more have not mentioned this.

This is what I'm saying.

Why the heck do the photos look like they've been edited?

Like to me, this is completely unacceptable.

I DO NOT WANT MY FRIENDS THINKING I'M AIR BRUSHING MY PHOTOS!!!

I'm not a sorority girl or something lol

If it's completely unacceptable, the phone is still within the 14 day return period.

I use the iPhone X so I'm good lol.

I don't disagree, but what I'm saying is that filter is what bothers.

I BADLY want better low lit for selfies, because that's when I take my selfies when I'm out partying or whatever.

But I wish the filter or whatever smoothing there is was not there

My bad. I didn't realize you were complaining about pictures you aren't even taking.

Lol fair enough, but just so you know I'm big on selfies. YES, I would have very likely upgraded from the X to the XS if they selfie camera was 8MP or some major major major improvement.

Heck, had this smoothening thing not been there but better low light, I still may have upgraded...

Anyway. It is what it is.

yeah I am gonna be "that guy". The ability / quality of the "selfie" your phone takes being a determining factor about what phone you have says a lot about people and this era. The iPhone Xs picture is "better" to 90% of people out there. To the 10% out there that are looking for photographer grade output from the device you are in the wrong place. The iPhone is supposed to be "simple" (even that is now debatable). The object is to snap the selfie, post it and move on with life. not snap it, send it to my computer, edit it with photoshop for however long that takes, and then post it. It just looks "good" without all the fuss, and for MOST people that is good enough. As for the filter, if I had to guess the filter itself is part of how the picture looks better in low light. It is probably calculating contrast delta over an area and the detail in a shirt like that the area is too small... sort of like trying to AA intertwined black and white pixels... all you get is gray output.

It's pretty bad. The Union Square Apple Store gets a lot of light so I had the opportunity to run the new cameras through their paces in both full sun and shadow. Conclusion: The X was noticeably better than the Xs and Xs Max.

My main concern is what will people think?

I would feel ashamed if people though I was using 3rd party apps to make my face look buttery smooth.

I’d be horrified if people thought that about me
