The XR is going to be a massive hit with the general populace. Despite people complaining about its cost, it is actually a huge value proposition when you consider the screen size, battery life, color options, and the fact that it has all the latest and greatest internals (unlike the 5C did at launch). Those picky about IP68, OLED, dual cameras, and status symbols will spring for the XS of course, but everyone else should be perfectly happy with the XR. Perfect business move by Apple.

I agree 100% and which I why i'm second guessing the decision to pre-order the Xs this morning. For most the Xr is worthy upgrade, but for me going from an X to Xr feels like about a half-step backwards.

The 3GB/4GB of RAM might make no difference really. You The XS/XS Max is driving a higher resolution display and, perhaps, the extra memory would make a difference there. The XR is driving fewer pixels, same processor, 25% less RAM... honestly, XR could appear faster.

I still have my iPhone 7 and have ZERO regrets about not buying the iPhone X last year. Until then, I've purchased every iPhone since the iPhone 4. If I get anything this year, I am fairly certain I would be content with the iPhone XR.

Probably closer to 75% but agreed. I think there is just a bigger segment of XSMax users out there then people think. I think the Xs is the loser.
I dunno, $350 for a screen that is 0.4" bigger?? Doesn't seem worth it. Especially because both use the "Plus" layout; in fact, I read that the XR and XS Max display the same amount of info on the screen, its just ever-so-slightly larger on the XS Max.

I pre-ordered an iPhone Xs (256 GB Silver) this morning, but after reading the technical comparison of Xs vs. Xr, I wonder if I should have just waited for the Xr next month. I own an iPhone X which I love, but giving up OLED display and 3D touch is not exactly a deal breaker for me. Especially when you consider the price difference.

I'd wait and have a look at the Xr first before deciding which one to buy. Why rush?

Why would you not offer 3D touch on the XR? Is it that much harder to manufacture, or costs so much more? It's a fantastic feature for editing text. shortcuts to home and work on google maps, etc. I really hope they don't do away with it after making such a BFD about it for years and getting all developers on board.

Well the Xs orders still have next Friday delievery/pick up. The XsMax orders are pushing into October now. Gotta remember some people use these devices as their all-in-ones or work phones. Bigger is better for them and $100 more then the Xs, that's why I think the Xs is the big loser of the 3.

Yep. I'm going to order and Xr then when it comes in the next week when it's released in stores, I'll go to the Apple store & compare the Xr to the Xs...if I like then I have it ready to open, if not return it and pick up and Xs in store.

It might be my eurocentric perspective, but i don’t think the Xr is a clear winner. While some specs look very good, the price is not „cheap“ for the omission of a state of the art display PPI, 3D Touch and Dual Cameras. There is potential for buyers remorse for those, who can’t or don’t want to afford an XS Max.

Did any of the first handson videos show if there is a Plus like landscape mode? Or is there any comparison of usable area of screen? Because i suspect there will be quite a surprise for those, who expect to have the same visible area like Plus. The X cuts of a lot of the video in comparison to the Plus and i doubt that a stretched 828p screen will be so much better.

I feel you. Now that I've had my X for almost a year, I've been totally ruined for OLED and couldn't easily go back to LCD, but I think the XR is shaping up to be the undisputed battery life champ and that alone makes it quite tempting.

No one is talking about it because it's not true.

As you might expect, you can pre-order the new iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR directly from Apple unlocked"

If you look at Apple's website, there is no "Buy without a Carrier" option for Xr.
I've reached out to Apple directly and they said that there will be no unlocked option, at least at launch. (The iPhone X also wasn't available unlocked at launch - they delayed that option 3 months. I anticipate a similar situation with the Xr)

The XR is my perfect phone outside of the size. If they made it in a 4" size I'd snap it up without a second thought.

I still remain hopeful that SE is coming with the same edge-to-edge notched-screen design. Although it would no longer be a 4" screen, it would be slightly larger, because I don't see them making the overall phone itself any smaller; it's already a great size. The Xr was the ice breaker for that tech, and now they can make it smaller into the SE size. That would be both smart and awesome, and a wonderful surprise, much like the original SE was.

I'm a fan of 3D touch so preordered 256 GB Xs Max, but forking over ~$450 more for Max compared to 128 GB Xr is little hard to stomach especially when I don't need 256 GB. I'll try it out and decide if it's worth it.

"All three new iPhones have a 7-megapixel front-facing TrueDepth camera, but the iPhone XR is limited to three Portrait Lighting effects: Natural, Studio, and Contour. iPhone XS and XS Max models also have Stage and Stage Mono effects. "

This isn't correct based on what Apple's web site says. The XR is limited to those three Portrait Lighting effects for the rear camera, but can do all five lighting effects for the front facing TrueDepth Camera.

Can someone describe the difference between LTE advance vs Gigabit-class LTE? The latter is 5G and only being adopted early 2019 in some cities?

It really bugs me that Apple labels any of its devices as having an "edge-to-edge display." None of them have that.

That's crazy talk. But don't worry, you'll get your true edge-to-edge screen in the next 10 years. It will be a seamless piece of glass, nothing else. Just magical.

Does the XR do landscape ffs? Nobody knows, journos are incompetent. I’m going to have to buy one to find out.

I bought an X unlocked on launch/pre-order day then returned it. It was available.

Seems that many, tech sites, YouTube reviewers, etc., et al., are recommending :apple: iPhone XR!

I think they'll sell like hot cakes! :)

And I'm afraid the XR is dead meat and will be a discontinued device, i still do not understand his position in the lineup, the price is not amazing, it looks pale near his elder brothers and it reminds me the iPhone 5c and iPhone SE that were one trick pony.
