I knew all this going in to my purchase...it sucks and now my iBook G4 just sits unused as it doesn't work with my new iPhone 4...gives me reason to upgrade to a newer macbook or macbook pro

If you have a MacBook, just buy the Snow Leopard Retail (yeah, requires Leopard according to the license, but you can install it just fine on a computer running 10.4)

No, it does NOT require Leopard "according to the license". It only requires Leopard according to the advertisements, but NOT according to the license. The license doesn't care. At all. It's a RETAIL, NOT an UPGRADE product, so there cannot be and there is no such thing as the requirement to own a prior product.

System specs for iPhone 4 include USB 2.0

Apologies for the ignorance but how do I know if my system uses USB 1.0 or 2.0? I've got an MacBook Pro 2GHz Intel Core Duo. Many thanks.

Some friends of mine had this issue, go to the Genius Bar. Make your appointment, have some time to kill, and normally they will get you up to leopard during your appointment. Should be pretty painless. Before you start returning phones and getting angry, just try the support that Apple offers. Most of the employee's want you to be happy and able to use your device as much as you do. Nothing else, can't hurt to give it a try.

Both ports are technically 2.0. Had an issue with my machine of that model with a Pro Tools interface when using the left side (MagSafe side) USB port to connect, would cause constant buffer issues, so you may want to use the right mounted port near the FireWire ports.

frustrated

I am technically challenged and also did not read the requirements when purchasing my iPhone. I purchased my mac in 07 and it runs on 10.4.11 as well. I went out and bought the new version of snow leopard thinking i was in the clear but once again did not read the requirements and my computer only has 512MB of ram instead of 1GB. My macbook has a 1.83 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo processor...would I have to take my computer in to get more ram memory for this to work? Is it even worth it?
Thanks in advance for the help

You can easily upgrade the RAM yourself. There are tons of video tutorials on YouTube (search Macbook RAM upgrade). Just make sure you buy the correct RAM for your MacBook.

I say it would be worth it to upgrade. RAM wouldn't cost much at all ($40) for a GB. While, Snow Leopard is $30.00. Overall, to have the latest iPhone, it would be cheaper than buying a new system.

IPhone for OS 10.4.11

When I plug in the device, it tells me I need to run itunes 10.1 or newer. When I try to download itunes 10.1, apple.com redirects me to itunes 10.2. A posting about this compatibility issue on the apple website was also archived- to avoid replies possibly? So why not make is easy on the apple website to find this issue out and suggest what to do so as not waste too much time with searches?

It's pretty weak that I can download itunes 10 on my old 500MHz PC running XP without upgrading while apple is squeezing us loyal customers. I am going to buy a new computer, and this makes me think twice about which brand to buy...

Same thing. I just bought white iphone 4 and my imac has 10.4.11. Snow Leopard is only $30?! WOW...sweet....If I get Snow Leopard will i lose all the stuff currently on my computer though?
