There's no doubt iPhones and top android phones are overpriced, I've still got the 8 plus and it's got the glass build that's on all decent phones and works just as good, well I know it's dated from the front now but the price of upgrading is really putting off and makes you question why, and is there need to get what is really an incremental update, that's the way it's been with a bit and that's the way from now on.

So due to Apples frankly ludicrous pricing, they have effectively forced you to buy an older models or far far less, and to keep it for a lot longer then normal.
This is the dangerous game Apple is playing, its profits on iPhones are from the price up, not the sales numbers!and I can’t see this being sustainable for long.
Many including myself will follow your footsteps, once the XS drops on price that will be a key phone for users, especially the Max.

Indeed and will perhaps tempt Apple to follow them by raising prices further again. I think that will force the market to react and smartphone sales will fall again. Then again as long as these companies are offering a mid tier device for the mainstream market, these niche devices can collect consumers in smaller numbers at the top end. These manufacturers are almost snubbing us with their exciting expected offerings costing so much but I am happy to not buy it.

The closer we get to the unveil, the more I believe Apple hasn't learned any lessons. I genuinely think they think we'll be so excited for whatever they introduce, that'll we'll just lap it up.

I'm more than happy and willing to prove them wrong.

I just want to see what they are going to unveil. I’m definitely not upgrading this year. I have 0 issues keeping my XS Max for another year.

Samsung sales tanked for the second quarter, which they obviously are their ‘own worst enemy’ trying to sell the Note at that price. Not to mention, the Note has slowly been on the decline for several years if I recall. Samsung thinks by including accessories with purchases of phones, that will sell it more, but not everyone cares about those types of promo offerings.

Indeed, and if I remember correctly the sales were so bad in Europe, Samsung didn’t even release it here for one edition a couple of years ago. However, I find although Samsung’s prices are high at release, they do drop fairly quickly after launch, in my country at least.

good, much better choice than the XR.

I think that’s just personal preference at the end of the day. I had both side by side for a while as I got a loaner from work on a recent journey.
The XR did everything equally well compared to my 8+, at least on the two weeks I had it.
Screen while lower resolution didn’t jump out at me as inferior.

I realize this is simply my opinion only. Having used many different iPhone's over the years, and currently using the XS Max, I personally feel no iPhone is worth more than $600 at retail. I understand others love their iPhone's and paid a lot more than that for them. But having used the XS Max for almost a year now, I'm simply done with pricey iPhone's. I simply don't think they are worth it at that price point. I'm planning on trading in my XS Max to AT&T once it's half paid off and getting an 8 Plus which I believe will be $550 post-keynote this year. I will then hold onto it until it no longer functions properly. With the exception of a potential future folding iPhone, I see no reason to ever spend more than $600 ever again for an iPhone. The innovation in smartphones is simply no longer there.

iPhones aren’t worth more than 50 cents to me.

600 dollars. 50 cents. Two opinions, worth exactly as much as you paid for them.

You don’t just buy an iPhone. You buy the ECOSYSTEM. You buy it for STRONG resale value. You buy it for 5+ years of full software support. You buy the customer service.

Many folks forget about the “other” benefits of iPhone ownership. They just look at the price. Go over to Android and you will see how crappy it is over there.
lol...when was the last time you had a proper android phone?

Or how about this jewel:

And after a mere 4 months of Pixel ownership, you get this: The Pixel 3 is Pissing Me Off. – Droid Life

(BTW, the editor who wrote that article is a pure Pixel fanboy to the extreme.)

Hilarious quotes from that article:

"The performance of it is dog sh*t. The camera is slow to load, if it even loads at all. Reboots are required daily or you’ll open apps and watch them slowly load or freeze for lengthy periods of time. Battery life, which could be sh*tty because of the attachment at all times to a Wear OS watch, is bad."

"When I mentioned to Tim that my Pixel 3 is garbage right now, he too said that his Pixel 3 XL is behaving badly. And he listed out all of the problems I’m having, like a need for daily reboots, slow-loading camera and apps, etc. Well, his battery life is fine. Additionally, a reader dropped us a random email over the weekend with the same complaints, that his Pixel 3 XL had “gone to complete sh*t lately, dropping frames and freezing.”"

"Redditors are well aware of the slow camera problem too."

"Lag and stuttering and slow-loading apps are noticeable things. When you miss shots on your camera because it takes 5-10 seconds to load and then doesn’t seem to register every other shutter button press, you don’t need data – something is just wrong."

And if you read the comments, then you will see that A LOT of the owners have the same problems!

url=https://www.xda-developers.com/samsung-galaxy-phones-value-depreciation-iphone/]Samsung Galaxy phones reportedly depreciate in value faster than other brands[/url]

The report noted, "In fact, the S9 lost 10.73% more of its resale value in the first month of release than the iPhone X did in nine months! Ouch."

This year, Apple's latest iPhone XR, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max models have similarly retained about 85 percent to 95 percent of their original sale value.

Resale value is seldom considered by reviewers discussing the upfront price of a device. Yet for a major purchase like a $999 iPhone X, the fact that it only depreciated by 30 percent over the first nine months is a substantial factor in buying it. With a resale value of $690, buyers can trade in their existing model and apply the residual value towards the purchase of a brand new iPhone XS.

I do not understand why you would not just keep your XS Max until it’s paid off and then keeping using it until It doesn’t work?

Why go backwards to an 8 Plus? It makes no sense.

The XS Max will take your further anyway.

I remember you posted exactly same thing in other thread.

I will give you this. I have zero issue with my P10, even after 2 years of usage. I can honestly say, after 2 years, it still just as fast as the day I inboxed it.

Enjoy your iPhone, while both iOS and Android serves me well.

you can find equal amounts of hatemail about iphones on the web too. Your quotes don't carry much weight in that sense..

"the android sucks all the time and iOS is always superior" argument is lame. In the past few years especially, Android phones have arguably pushed the iPhone forward to a higher degree than the other way around.

I'm a big iOS guy, as you are. But it is a bit late in the game to be picking horses. These two platforms have both emerged as victors in the now very mature smartphone war.

Give a good phone a shot. I have the regular S10, in some ways I feel it's a more pleasant phone to use than my X.

It’s not my quotes...it’s from prominent Android editors that wrote those things. It is not just hate mail if the resale value of Android is just horrible...which reflects their perceived value to the general masses.

Android phones pushing what? Heck your old iPhone X created how much of a stir in Android world?! The X brought notches galore to Android. The FaceID is making huge waves where Android OEMs are stepping on each other trying to copy it. I kinda want to say that X has had a HUGE impact on Android much more so than the other way around.

Sure, there are minor software similarities between iOS and Android........but isn’t the next Android OS (Q) rumored to be especially restrictive......going the way of iOS?

Your S10 is almost 2 years newer than your old X....1.5 years? I certainly hope that it feels “more pleasant”.......but here’s the thing........according to SAMSUNG itself, your S10 is worth the same value as iPhone X (2017) if you trade it in for Note 10...both are worth $600 in trade-in value.

THINK about that...this is from SAMSUNG, not a 3rd party. A phone that is 2 years old is worth the same as a phone that is 6 month old. Kinda suck on your end, doesn’t it? (In comparison, Note 8 which came out same time as your old X is worth HALF that!). Even Samsung doesn’t think that its own phone is worth much!! LOL

While iPhone X will get every major software update for 5+ years, your S10 will get maybe 2 at most (Q and R)...and then it becomes an outdated piece of junk...with zero resale value.

These are facts.

EDIT: oh, Pixel 2 (came out same time as X) is worth $300. So basically, the two top Android flagships of 2017 are worth half of iPhone X......according to SAMSUNG.

And according to them, NO OTHER ANDROID IS WORTH A DAMN. LG...not even on the list. HTC? they dead yet? Hello Moto? Goodbye Moto. NONE of the other Android is worth a damn penny according to Samsung!

Here is the link to trade in for Note 10: https://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/galaxy-note10/buy/

Ha! I could not have said it better!

I use a XS Max and P30 Pro daily, although my main sim is currently in the iPhone, however I cannot say the one is completely better than the other, but having both platforms to use daily is an absolute pleasure as one picks up where the other lacks.

Part of the reason that I was happy to get an iPhone now was that I had iPads since the iPad 4th gen and watched iOS mature and get more features and finally in iOS 12 I saw that iOS was at a point where it could serve me on my phone and more so when I saw iOS 13 bringing a lot of things I I appreciate in Android.

So in closing I absolutely agree that Android has in fact pushed iOS more over the last few years, vs in the early days where iOS was pushing Android.

It’s a great time to be a mobile enthusiast because you cannot really go wrong, but it’s also a rather boring time because they have become so similar.

It makes sense seeing as there are multiple OEMs running Android and only one doing iOS.

There is fierce competition in every price point in Android, even if Samsung value their devices higher they have to be more conservative because OEMs like Huawei and Oppo are hot on their heels in many large markets.

The iPhone X had an impact in 2018 Androids but in 2019 most OEMS are trying to lose the notch and getting pretty creative about it, so that point is also not at all solid.

The OnePlus 7 Pro does not have a notch, neither does the Galaxy S10 or Note10, the Samsung’s opted for cut holes in the screens and OP7 opted for a pop up camera.

In terms of FaceID most OEMs once again moved away from this and most of them are doing Under Screen Fingerprint Readers, so that was also not much of a solid point.

We get that you hate Android from a distance, but please do not throw around blanket statements, most of your “facts” around features apply to 2018 devices not 2019/2020.

Unreal. Anyone can post links to Android/iOS why it’s ‘not a good choice’ or ‘no one likes this android phone....’ ect, ect.......

All that matters, is what someone prefers in with what operating system they choose, _most_ of the hardware from Apple and its competitors is very good. And all hardware has it’s own store of issues, which includes the iPhone. Tech isn’t perfect and never will be.

Exactly.

It’s unfortunate there are some characters out there that are such hardcore zealots they will use pricing to try make a post about how good or bad a device/OS is and yet many of us who actually use both platforms know that there is not much separating them.

These days it is really about what works for you, nothing is really better or worse than the other in most general aspects, it’s now simply down to your needs and wants.

It’s hard for some to comprehend this though.
