Good morning all. It's a new day, and it appears that the tariff exemptions for semiconductors and electronic devices were only temporary. Have a nice day.

Per Reuters: U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday said he would be announcing the tariff rate on imported semiconductors over the next week, adding that there would be flexibility with some companies in the sector.

The website has the receipts, go take a look. Trump went golfing instead of attending the repatriation of the four soldiers who died in Lithuania.

Looks like they DO say 21 "Days" of golfing :)

Did he play 18 holes each time? That would be impressive.

He really must be a student of the game! I bet he plays 9 holes or maybe less. And it looks like it's 2 days a week. And really - lots can get done wrt planning and stuff when you go do exercise sessions. It's not like he is binge watching Netflix - he is getting a bit of physical exercise.

Humans need this. I don't begrudge him that. We all need more exercise. This is being a human being. How many hours did he spend with grandchildren? Is he doing 6 hours of exercise per week? Or "21 days of GOLF" ? SAME THING.

If you want to put him under the magnifying glass - be sure to consider what is healthy and reasonable.

How many exercise sessions did Joe Biden have I wonder? Zero?

So we agree, this isn't true (even without a magnifying glass):

"….He is Working just about every day - it's hard just to keep up with all the Whitehouse briefings and cabinet Youtube stuff. If you watch all of it you will have to be impressed. He is working hard!…."

Ofcourse he also has to visit U.F.C. fights in Miami, football and baseball events. Very busy old man indeed.

With Apple pledging $500 Billion for USA projects, they will be exempt from Tariffs.

How much did Apple spend on the big flying saucer UFO building? Was it $2 Billion? I forget. But they have now promised $500 Billion? Half a Trillion dollars spent by Apple in USA on new stuff? Huge! It is likely a big AI server and all the infrastructure. That will have a lot of Caterpillar (Stock is CAT) machines involved and a lot of people needed for building stuff I think.

This is classic market manipulation in practice. Do something that tanks the market (tariffs). You and your pals know in advance that it's going to happen, and take a large put option position on your favorite index. Then you hear through the crony pipleline that those tariffs are going to be delayed tomorrow. Sell your put options, buy call options. Make a fortune both on the way down, and on the way up. Marjorie Taylor Greene did it. But it's just coincidence, right?

Hindsight is 20/20 I guess.

It was a good gamble to take. I think I said it here

$500 BILLION from Apple for USA investment. Of course they will get exemptions from Tariffs! If you were Tim Cook would you say, "yah - we will pay the Tariffs until we build out every last thing in the $500 B in USA". No. You would instead say "of course we are happy that Apple can enjoy an exemption from Tariffs especially since we are investing so much money back into the USA domestic market".

It's nothing dirty, it would be common sense.

OH - what about TSM? Did they also make some billions of dollars USA investment promises? Take a look North Scottsdale, Arizona! :) Do you have a wild guess that your house in North Scottsdale might go up in value?

That's exactly what they are doing. This has Elon footprints all over. Trump is also racketeering small countries around the globe promising them the position of US being "on their side" if they sling some free lots for his son or his son in law so they could erect Trump towers or other kind of construction.

Can be true, but Trump is the one who's facilitating him….letting him make these footprints.
So, first responsible.

Even Trump's treasury secretary, trade representative, and commerce secretary are caught flat footed by all of these changes. No one can explain the strategy. One day it's a long term strategy to bring back manufacturing and generate revenue. The next day it's a short term strategy to bring countries to the table and make a deal. Nobody in the administration can explain it. No economist worth a dime can explain it. To me, it has all the look of someone who doesn't know what they're doing, or if this is intentional, then it is just plain market manipulation.

Honestly, at first I thought it was simply a strategy to pay for tax cuts for the wealthy by raising taxes on import goods largely purchased by low and middle income folks....effectively a regressive sales tax. It complemented the DOGE cuts to programs that largely benefit low and middle class people. Kind of a reverse Robin Hood approach. But now, the whole thing is just plain nonsensical.

Why does everything have to be so related to what did Joe Biden do? There are plenty of videos of him riding his bicycle. I am sure you will froth at the mouth and scream that Donald Trump is in peak physical shape and rides a bike 12 miles a day, even though there is no evidence he even knows how to ride a bike. You all work so hard to create an imaginary world where Donald Trump can do no wrong but everything is Joe Biden’s fault. It’s embarrassing at this point.

You know what really pisses me off? People giving Tim Cook grief for donating money to Trump. First off he did it out of his personal money, not directly from Apple. Ok, lets get that clear. Tim cook as a private citizen can donate his money to anyone or any group he wants to. Thats his right. Whats next? we are going to be mad at Tim Cook for buying an overpriced couch for his home? common people.

2nd of all...hes smart. I doubt he likes trump personally. Hell i'll bet you he cant stand the guy and i cant blame him, but he did this to curry favor with a unstable nut job to protect his company AND EMPLOYEES.... and i bet you alot of companies did the same knowing how trump is, so when he goes and pulls this nonsense tariff BS they can go..."Hey Donny, we should get a break because we threw you some dollars for this or that in the past"

YOU KNOW...THE ACTUAL ART OF THE DEAL! Kiss some butt before, so when the **** hits the fan they can call in a favor that protects their business.

Tim dident do that because he loves Trump. Tim did this to protect Apple and keep the business going durring the reign of king Trump the Orange who clearly is mentally unstable.

It was a gamble that hopefully pays off but with the orange toddlers mood swings and stupidity, who the hell knows!

Some people say its him "Bending the knee" but sometimes in life you got to bend the knee to keep things flowing the way they should and protect your interests. Thats how the real world is, especially for major corporations.

I get why people are mad, to us a million dollars is more money then we will ever see or spend at once. But to the head of Apple...thats nothing. thats pennies hes investing to hopefully protect his buisness when a clearly unstable mad man makes a stupid ass presidential decision to totally screw up the world economy because he doesnt understand or cares to understand how tariffs actually work!

At least tim has the forsight to curry favor with someone ahead of time, to protect his buisness! Thats called being smart. I got no problem with that, he's looking out for his company and employees working for his company and he's using his personal money to do it.

That to me is the sign of a good leader. Tim knows he's going to get **** for it too and the optics of it make him look like a MAGA Trump supporter, but i doubt he cares because in the end its a investment that hopefully protects apple and its employees from idiotic trade policies and thats a good thing.

If him donating 1 million dollars saves apple and its employees AND THUS COSUTMERS billlions of dollars in the long run by avoiding tariffs...thats a smart investment!

There are more to these million dollar donations than meets the eye. Is there strong proof that that was the amount donated? If so, if I was a Trump supporter (I am not), I would be wondering why he asks such a low price for his favors which could be worth many many millions to these companies.

We had our own industrial revolution. We did well. The offshoring of American jobs began with Reagan and continued with other presidents after that, including some Democratic ones. We have the chance to be a post-industrial nation, based in services, information and research. We were well one the path to that until the moron-in-chief with his erratic moves and fantasies of an industrial America began to pull his moves. China would love to move past being just the factory floor of the world. Trump has chopped basic research and investment here. Scientists and professionals are already leaving. We don't need to be a sweatshop nation again, the way we used to be.
your vision of America, while mostly admirable, does not take into account the non-intellectuals in our country. Not everyone is going to be an astronaut or scientist, we need to have career paths available for those people as well.

No one is saying it's a bad thing to manufacture things in the US, but you have a 4% unemployment rate. You simply don't have the numbers of people required to fill the jobs to manufacture things in the US, and you don't have the skills.

You don't have the factories and the equipment, and you don't have the people with the skills to run that equipment.

Sure, you could train people to run those machines, but that takes time and money, and it takes people. You don't have the people...

If you want to start manufacturing things in the US you need to move people out of their current jobs and into manufacturing jobs, and who's going to do that? Would Starbucks shut down half their coffee shops so there's a pool of people who need a job, and who could go off into a manufacturing job? No.

And remember, if you think Apple could make an iPhone in the US and keep the prices the same, you're lying to yourself. Labour is cheaper overseas. You said it yourself: "manufacturing here will make pay rates rise" - that labour cost feeds into the cost of the products produced in the US. Economists have already said a $1,000 iPhone would cost $2,300. You wanna pay twice the amount you currently pay, even with higher wages?

How would iPhones that cost twice the price affect Apple's overseas sales? If pay rates rise in the US but nowhere else (as in, why would pay rates rise in the UK, EU, India... if iPhones are manufactured in the US...?) fewer iPhones would be sold overseas, and that affects Apple's sales, meaning fewer iPhones are required, and fewer jobs.

It's all linked.
the 4% does not include those that have given up looking for a job, the real unemployment rate is roughly 8-12% (when including the 4% you are talking about) that's the percentage of roughly 100 million people, there are more people than you think they are.

It wasn't only $1M, it was closer to $5M. The inauguration donations were $1M. That's literally just to get on the RSVP mailing list for March. The dinner invitations sent last month to dine with Trump one-on-one were $5M.
