One big advantage Apple has over the rest as the market becomes mature and saturated is that they have the iPhone "brand" that they can continue to market at higher prices to make up for any sales volume loss.

Yep, they don’t need to sell 60 million phones per quarter because their average selling price is like around $750.

Idk why companies even think like they could be Apple though. The brand is an anomaly because Samsung cannot just offer high prices, hardware, and expect to be #1.

It’s fine to compete against Apple, but companies don’t do it properly. It’s about unique value propositions, differentiation, margins, and meeting costs to make it worth the while.

LG doesn’t get that. Their phone values and experience depreciate over time. People don’t want to buy LG in droves because the brand suffered; there was no past software support; and the prices were too high.

Apple has a good blend of hardware and software support too.

If I am LG, I would’ve stuck with the V30 concept, manufactured a product to sell at $600 with margins comfortable enough to produce growth, provide software support, and convince people why they should go LG rather than other areas. 2 year warranties, wide angle dual lenses, highest LCD brightness, quad DAC, whatever it takes to differentiate.

HHAHAHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHAHAHA

Nice to be scratching out a 15% share of the market you invented and had a multi-year head start on.

Who could criticize that?

Well, Apple just told us the iPhone X is the best selling phone in Apple's lineup since release the best selling phone in China. Apple also has the top 3 best selling phones in Asia.

It's official, Apple is dominating and iPhone X was a HUGE "Superbowl" success. ;)

Well my Galaxy S8 is way more snappier than any iPhone I have previously owned. More responsive, superior display, superior camera, superior battery life....need I go on.

Coming from an iPhone user up until 2017!!!

For me, its all about the eco system: Mac + iPad + iPhone + Apple Watch + AirPods > Samsung Windows laptop + Galaxy Tab + Galaxy S + Gear watch + Gear IconX

Yes the seamless integration we enjoy across all types of devices is unbeatable.

Android users typically have to use Windows for a computer, choose between ChromeOS, Android, or Windows for some kind of tablet. Some of them prefer Fitbit for their fitness tracker which again is a different platform. Once you start mixing things up, it becomes impossible to enjoy the cohesive experience us Apple enthusiasts enjoy.

During the Jan-March Qtr, Apple sold ~9.4M iPhone X units, ~8.36M iPhone 8+ units, ~8.36M iPhone 8 units, ~7.83M iPhone 7+ units, ~7.83M iPhone 7 units, AND the rest (~12.0M units) were older 6s/6s+/SE models.

Of those who purchased the iPhone X, ~90% we're already in Apple's Annual Upgrade Program.

9.4M units is NO Super Bowl win Mr. Cook ! ... and certainly NOT when most who purchased we're "already" in your Annual Upgrade Program !

Even if my calculations are off alittle, Apple still sold less than 10M units of it's Flagship iPhone X during the Jan-March Qtr.

According to Neil Cybart of Aboveavalon, Apple was estimated to have sold about 15 million iPhone X units in Q2 2018 (article is behind a paywall). This represents about 28% of overall iPhone sales, which I feel is a respectable number given its price.

Your calculations are more than just “off a little”, given that your numbers are off by more than 50%. Don’t quit your day job anytime soon.

Android users can pick and choose whatever they want to use. I have a Galaxy S8+, Gear S3 watch, a couple Google Homes, iPad Pro, iMac and my work laptop is a Fujitsu running Windows 10. How do I make it all work together? It’s simple... I just use Google. GMail, Google Maps, Google Music, Google Photos, Google Docs, etc. Now if you’re a “never Google” person it won’t work as well, but there are still ways to make it sync.

I enjoy technology and I like to use and understand all different platforms. Some people don’t want to take the time to learn different systems and be tech savvy and that’s fine as well. Personally I’d get bored with everything being the same all the time, but that’s just me.

I'll never own another Samsung again. I'm sorry, I just don't have the desire to. My last Samsung phone was the Galaxy S8 and I'll never own another. I completely disagree with anyone saying it's smooth, UI stutter was abundant to my eye.

Ok Apple ... you have pretty all the target markets and product mix in the smartphone lineup. Now ... let's make it simple going forward:

iPhone (this is what the current X will be)
iPhone Plus (6.1" ~ I STILL think this is stupid since the X is 5.8" already)
iPhone SE (new version for lower end market and smaller screen lovies)
iPhone (RED) ... product red yearly

These get 128/256/512GB storage options ... THEN you can sell the $1400US+ iPhone ;)

Kill the 6/6S globally makes no damn sense at 16/32GB you must be loosing money here!

iPhone 7 and 8
- various markets for lower tier ... 16/32/64/128GB.

Obviously, you are clueless. S9+ is as smooth as any iPhone (I have both), and will continue to be.

The S9/S9+ did pretty well considering it's not much of a design change from the S8/S8+. And many users are still riding the Note 8 wave.

Now the iPhone X was a complete design change with an added Face ID feature. But it didn't sell as well as expected. IMO, I think the Notch and lack of Touch ID was a huge factor in that.

Totally agree.

I am as tech savvy as they come, I routinely use Linux, UNIX (Well Mac is actually a UNIX), Windows 10, Windows Server, etc. I just want my tech to work at home. I got tired of rooting Android, etc., and now I am glad I have an ecosystem at home that just works. I don't have to fiddle with it not working all the time. Now I am free to actually do other things.

I also don't believe in trusting my data to google or facebook, etc., Apple is the only one that seems to care about Data Privacy as an actual concept. Either you pay for the product or you are the product.

It makes you wonder how well they could do if they priced their phones competitively (for market share) rather than optimising margins for profit...

I hear ya, but no matter how good Google gets they can’t integrate at the same level as Apple can.

For example Universal Clipboard.

Don’t get me wrong. Despite my hate for Samsung I still use a Pixel along with my iPhone because an iPad is too difficult to fall asleep with especially when you drop one on your face as you doze off.

It sold what a rumoured 16-20 million units last quarter. Pretty damn good for the era of smart phones these days.

S9 was a spec bump and it has showed. Sales wise Samsung have never blown away with massive sales anyway not on apple's level anyway.

It was rumoured google pixel sold like 4-5 million units which is very low given how good the device is.
