iPhone's screen is embarrassing next to Galaxy's

Don't get me wrong I love Apple, and can't ever see myself ditching my iPhone (although I've considered it here and there).

But seeing my iPhone 6s Plus' screen in comparison to my friend's Galaxy S6 is borderline embarrassing. The screen on Samsung's phones are beautiful. You would think Apple would've stepped up their game by now. I can't believe how much nicer the Galaxy displays are.

    Anyone else agree?

I agree, looking at the screen retention/burn in for the display model makes me envious...

    It's embarrassing my iPhone isn't reminiscent for a 80's tube TV... /s

Sometimes I wish that the ability to post new threads on this board was not linked to the number of posts a user has made, but the number of times he has used the search function.

I predict that someone will now mention the potential for burn in on AMOLED displays. For the record, I've been working at a phone store since November and thus seen many a customer's old Galaxy phone. The only burn in I've seen have been on the display models, not people's years old phones.

It can occur for the unlucky people though, just as LCDs can suffer from backlight bleed and other issues. Every different display technology has the potential to go wrong.

The only phone screen that's 4K is the Sony Xoeria Z5 Premium.

Don't really agree. Or at least don't think the 6S Plus is so much poorer to get all over dramatic about it.

I have very similar experience on both my S7E (basic mode) and my 6S+

Both get very bright, both look good outdoors and I can't see pixels on either. Colour accuracy (after changing to full rgb basic mode) is near identical too.

So see no reason to belittle either.

One has the best LCD panel on a mobile and the other the best Amoled panel on a device.

    This guy gets it.

The only thing I can noticeably tell is different is the AMOLED's blacks are much nicer.

People must get embarrassed really easily these days. Even if the resolution of my phone was still 320x480, like the original iPhone, I don't think I'd be anywhere close to "borderline embarrassed." Even if it were 320x480 and cracked.

The 6s+ is solid enough, but the 6s is lacking. Same with the battery comment above. The 6s+ is still the best phone I have used for battery life. I find the 6s to be severely lacking there.

That being said I would like to see Apple make some advancements in PPI for the iPhone 7.

I would love to see a 2K display on the IP7. They need to upgrade over the 1080 on the 6s+

As much as I dislike certain aspects of my iPhone (e.g. iOS), the screen is more than sufficient. Given the actual screen sizes and overall quality of flagship products, comparing smartphone screens is in my opinion inane. The same goes for processor speeds. People argue about these specs as if they are doing heavy duty Photoshop editing and AutoCAD on these smartphones.

I actually prefer LCD over Samsung's over saturated screen.

Choose basic mode (which is essentially SRGB mode) in display settings on the Samsung and saturation is pretty much identical between them ...

Not sure how that is relevant considering the burn in only occurs under non-real world conditions (i.e. leaving the screen on for 12+ hrs every day).

I don't care that much about screen resolution

I would rather have lower res without stuttering / higher battery life than push to the limits of the resolution the hardware can handle
(not saying the s7 stutters, im just talking about principles)

Sounds like my reaction to originally seeing an AMOLED screen. It's the best out there bar none. But that's not to say that the iPhone screens are bad. I don't mind them at all. I wouldn't mind if they stuck with the current ones. AMOLED is more of a luxury than a necessity.

Now an iPad with AMOLED? That for me would be hard to resist.

I'd take an AMOLED display over the current LCD if you had a choice..
