Now if they could make iphoto more friendly when using it's library from across a network.
I store all my files on my server. itunes has no problem with this but iphoto is very flakey and opening the library can be hit or miss.

I also hate how iphoto completely rearranges the directory structure of your photos when adding to the library. itunes can add songs to itself without rearranging all my folders on the drive.

I would love to see picasa ported over to OSX.

not constructive

ooooOOo, I can improved the quality of the overpriced books and calenders from apple? Yay!

With due respect, some of us-myself included- actually like using iphoto for ordering calendars and photo books. We choose to use it. You choose not to....that's fine. Iphoto is a simple, elegant and convienient way to order beautifully made products. Could it be cheaper? Yes but couldn't everything?. Is it worth paying a little extra for? Yes! If this update improves the quality, great! It was of a very high standard before anyway!

There's definitely something in the teachers at my school.
:D

I wish there was a better way to use multiple libraries than the 'hold option at startup' trick. I also hate that 'events' can't be turned off, since I organise things into albums *anyway*, but generally iPhoto is a great way to manage photos for me.

I'm happy about the update. Overpriced as their books may be, they've got me. I like using iPhoto to make albums. I recently complained to Apple about the print quality, and low and behold, they actually issued a response to our gripes.

Whether or not the "improved quality" represents a legitimate step up, remains to be seen, of course...

Many of my images print dark through apples printing service.. anyone else have this porblem? am i doing anything wrong? Screen brightness is set to 50%

thanks

Perhaps your screen is not calibrated correctly? Oftentimes screens are not calibrated to the same color as ink on paper.

I used it at the end of last school year b/c a lot of the teachers had babies. I'll have to do a sequel b/c now a whole new crop of teachers are pregnant. There's definitely something in the water at my school.

Nothing to do with the water.. might have something to do with the students..

I suppose this may be the last update we'll see to iPhoto in iLife 08. Apple should be releasing the next version early next year perhaps at Macworld 2009 this coming January.

I don't think we will see new iPhoto before Snow Leopard.

why is this front page news again?

Hehe, whilst I acknowledge multiple updates do mean news... its just a bit of a letdown after all the fuss and excitement about the Macbooks :D. Slow news day.

Absolutely. I work in an Apple reseller, and we've got some sample books etc to show customers. Every one of the customers are aghast at how easy it all is, and the end result being such great quality. To be able to have the level of control provided with such ease and seamlessness is what Apple is all about.

BTW, I haven't used it yet, but I intend to use the Aperture ones after uni is finished (and I start earning more than a pittance :p)

hmm do i have to be logged in as an admin for it to be downloaded automatically?

WebGalleries to offer Printing Services

I wish friends and family could order prints, etc. themselves from the web galleries I manage in iPhoto. What's the best .Mac alternative out there for this?

Thanks!

Good, their printing services were pretty sad. We once ordered a book of pictures from our trip to Tanzania and they came out pixilated and grainy, lacking depth of color and contrast.

EXACTLY!! <-- Emphasis means I agree to a great extent.

This is one thing Web Gallery needs. My wife always wants to use snapfish and the like because the family can order off that. But, if the the next iLIfe update included a way for people visiting your Web Gallery to access a printing service from there, that would make my life much easier. Sometimes family memebrs are slow on the uptake of saving photos to their computer and either uploading them to Walgreens or putting them on a USB drive and hike their butt up there.

Come on Apple! Save me the "I like these photos, how do I get them" phone calls. My sanity is in your hands!

Is anyone actually using the built-in printing service?

Yes. I have discovered that while local printing services can be cheaper Apple's service has often much better quality. If I want prints or books I want quality products and I have not yet been disappointed with the results when ordering through iPhoto or Aperture.

I would love to see picasa ported over to OSX.

But picasa does have a plugin for iPhoto that makes sharing photos ridiculously easy. If you want to print using picasa's service can you not then do it on-line once you have uploaded? Am I missing something here?

Personally I have used Picasa a couple of times just to share photos. It is easy with iPhoto integration. My wife prefers our PC (how strange is that?) and anyway has installed picasa client. I used it once and found it awful.

I'll be sticking with iPhoto for now.

Still ridiculous that you cannot import all your Spotlight Comments in to iPhoto for metadata search.
