iPod ipod 30gb video only works when plugged into charger

Hi

My ipod classic 30gb works only when plugged into the charger. I just replaced the battery but it made no difference.When I usb it into the computer it only says 'very low battery, please wait.'
Once I plug it into the charger it tells me it is charged, I pull out the charger and it is dead..
Now what ??

Sounds like the battery is shot.

It is brand new..might send it back

Reinstall the battery. You may have not done it right the first time. or send it back
