Your problem is that you assume that everyone's needs and wants are the same as yours, and thus that anyone who makes a different choice from you is doing so out of ignorance. The archos is clearly superior to the ipod in some ways, and it's clearly way behind in others. It's nice to have choices.

i think this about sums it up, couldnt have said it better myself

I don't see how its behind the ipod in anything technically. Size and weight? How about the screen being 3 times larger?

I didn't say the ipod was ahead in tech specs, what I said was:

size, weight, form-factor, style, interface, ease of use, and top-to-bottom integration

Those are not insignificant factors. Maybe you don't care about them, but they mean vastly more to me than a helmet cam, 120 GB hard drive, or dvr that I'm never going to use.

As for the screen being larger, sure. That comes at the price of more than twice the weight and a great deal more volume. My macbook has a bigger screen than your archos, and a 30" cinema display is larger than my macbook. And with each increase, we're losing more and more portability. Once again, it all depends on what you value, and there's no "right" answer.

I never did get any response from anyone about what they want in the next revision of the ipod. Sad really.

Well go listen to you ipod then. I will make a note of your screen name and watch out for posts from you about wanting a large screen ipod when they are released ok. :D

Like you don't want one.

"neighbor gets a lamborgini and qcassidy tells him its stupid, he doesn't need all that speed and hot looks, his pyrus is all he needs."

Hahaha.

Different strokes for different folks ;)

Archos has gottenbetter, but I still like my iPods, the amoutn of toys I can get for them, and the integration is great. There are some good alternatives, but it all depend sonw hat you want.

Me, video doesn't mean flip, I watch all my stuff on a big screen, the iPod is nothing more than a music player to me... Which it performs that task flawlessly.

ok, now you're starting to get annoying. FYI, I haven't owned a full size iPod since Gen. 1 because I value the size of a mini/nano/shuffle vastly more than the bigger screen and other features of a larger iPod. I certainly am not going to go to an archos twice as large as a full-size ipod.

I'll tell you what - search my 3000+ previous posts and find ONE where I say I want a full-screen video ipod. Then you can come back here and tell me that I secretly want some 4" brick and am just jealous of you.

I've tried to be polite and reasonable with you, but your consistently obnoxious attitude and refusal to acknowledge counter arguments suggests you're just a troll looking for a fight.

Exactly the same way I was, had a 3rd gen, went to a mini, then a shuffle, then a nano, and now a new Shuffle and Nano... Its a portable music player, I wish I had time to even consider watching movies when I'm not home, but I don't.. So Video really isn't something I use, and mos tof the people I know with the new iPods and other players that have video capability, use it.

Now can't we all just get along?

you're just a troll looking for a fight.

Who's the troll? I started this thread for people who want the video capabilities in the future ipod. You are clearly not one of those people. You only want a music player. So why are you here then????????

I never wanted the iPod to go video in the first place. There are others (the Archos in particular) that have much bigger displays that are much more suited to this sort of thing if you need it. Personally I never had any desire to own a video player (even if it can record). But if I did want video, I expect that I would choose the Archos over the iPod (but for music I would stick to my Nano).

Here here.

Personally, if I'm going anywhere where I might want to watch a film or two on the move, I'd be taking my iBook with me anyway which has a rather nice 12" screen on it. If all I want is music then I value the small size of the mini/nano range. I've got a mini myself and I just ordered a pink nano for the girlfriend, using Apple's one day discount promotion.
If I got any form of video player, I'd be battling with codec problems far more than I could be bothered to deal with anyway.

What do I want in the next iPod? Nothing really. An increase in hard drive size and a decrease in volume is always good although I don't really see where the nano can go from here design wise to be improved upon. I'd quite like a full screen touch screen video iPod to be added to the line up but I don't see myself buying one any time soon. It'd probably have a poor battery life anyway. My mini's batteries can last for up to 24 hours under real world conditions and I value that probably more than all of the other benefits of the model!

Thats all I am trying to say. Danka. The nano is awesome for music, although I am liking the Sansa alot these days. FM recording, Micro SD slot, little thicker than the nano though but has replaceable battery and voice record.

I think the problem you have, and what you seem to be forgetting, is that people want iPod in their new iPod Videos... They want a click wheel, they want small, light, hell, they want an Apple Logo? Why? Because they can...

... Go Figure...

Edit: Anyway, do you know what Apple will be offering in their new iPods. Wait, whats that I hear?

No?

Thought as much, anyway, go back to playing with your helmet, er, cam and we'll sit here and wait, thanks. Why? Because thats what I want to do.

Quit waiting for it to come and buy it now from Archos and moto. They really put the ipod to shame folks. Seriously.

iPod getting a butt woopin

Don't start crying that you don't like the debate that you started.

Who's the troll? I started this thread for people who want the video capabilities in the future ipod.

You did? You did a piss poor job of it then. Perhaps you should re-read your own starting post. Here, let me quote it for you:
So I have 2 ipods, a 60gb photo and a 60gb 5g and have been waiting for some time for a true video ipod with a big screen like everyone right. Well here is the scoop.

I got the motorola SLVR L7 phone. Has itunes, camera, replacable battery, its a phone, microsd slot, plays games etc etc. Where is the apple equivalent? Next year maybe an apple phone? Hmm. Sorry but moto beat them too it.

Now for the true video ipod. Hmm. I got tired of waiting and purchased the Archos 504 40gb. Got it home and threw in one of my 120gb Western Digital hard drives and POW got 120gb true video ipod. Loved it so much I went out and got the Archos 604 wifi too. Now this is bad to the bone folks. Touch screen, wifi, plays ALL videos with plugins, no need to resize them for ipod, ugghh. Its got a replaceable battery too and here is the nice part, it acts like a hard drive so all you have to do is drag your content onto it and it plays them, photos, videos, music AND you can record video with it. Its a pvr. I got the helmet cam with it and it rocks.

So even if apple comes out with an iphone, moto already did and its nice.

So even if apple comes out with a true video ipod, will it have wifi and be able to surf the net? Will it be touch screen? Will it record video? I doubt it.

Quit waiting for it to come and buy it now from Archos and moto. They really put the ipod to shame folks. Seriously.

Just my .02
You started this thread to crap on Apple for the rumored iPhone, and further to crap on them for not introducing a true video ipod, and then further to (basically) spam about the Archos and a Motorola phone as an alternative to anything that Apple currently offers for equivalent technology. That's all fine and good, but please don't try and pretend that your noble intentions were to gather "people who want the video capabilities in the future ipod", because that's not how this thread started... at all.

(emphasis added)

Don't start crying that you don't like the debate that you started.

Not crying here, looks like you are though. Sorry if the archos is better for video than the ipod is, and sorry if the moto slvr is going to be better than the RUMORED iphone.

Fact is equivalent apple products don't exist. You are fighting a losing battle.
