Just what I have been waiting to hear. I could use a new iPod nano to replace my 2nd Generation and I've heard they (3rd Generation) have better Nike+ software. :)

Very few companies have the vision and design Apple has employed with the iPod. Where Apple leads others merely follow.

comments abound in relation to what feature/technology Apple needs to implement- FM, expandable memory, removable battery, this new thing, that new thing and yet the iPod remains #1 despite all this

Yes the ease of use and, as yet, unrivalled hardware/software integration helped the iPod to become the biggest selling DAP and create in its wake the phenomenon it is today BUT an often overlooked and very important aspect to the iPod's success is Apple took risks and continued to take risks when they reached the #1 spot.

No other company, that I can think of, has ever at the height of the success of its biggest selling product (iPod Mini)- the World's best selling DAP- just killed production outright to introduce a completely new, more expensive product in its place. Most companies in Apple's position would have flogged the mini to death.

That is why the iPod is the success it is and why we should be grateful because every other competing manufacturer has had to continually follow Apple's radical redisgns and try and trump them. The end result- we all end up with better DAP's

what will this update do for the two ipods??
i hope not too much cause i have a ipod touch now and i dont want it to become obsolete:(

Ugh  Yes lets stop all progress so your gadgets can remain current. How long do you propose they do this? Until you're ready to upgrade??

My Guess...

The nano has gotten to the point where it really can't be much thinner, the screen can't be much bigger, and the interface can't be revised much more.

Unless there is a touch screen iPod Nano to replace the click wheel. I guess time will tell.

I hate when reporters capitalize the i in iPod at the start of a sentence. I know the situation creates a grammatical freak-out in your brain, but come on people, it's iPod - never IPod - even if it's the first word in a sentence.

I still use a 2006 5th Gen iPod. It's old, but not obsolete. You'll be fine :)

That's a bit harsh, don't you think?

I like the way people state the obvious (not you speakerwizard). Intel anounce a new chip and the rumor mill goes wild that new Macs with the new chips are on the way. Yeah, duh! Samsung/Toshiba/Other announce a larger HD in the same form factor as the current one, and again 'coming to a Mac/iPod/iPhone near you'. Another duh! We seem to be mising the rumors (well accurate ones anyway) about form factors or new products. Can we go beyond the obvious anymore!

Amen!

Nothing to see here people, move along...

Wi-Fi?

Is it unreasonable to think that any iPod with a screen might be wi-fi capable? It sure would bring a lot more users to the impulse driven, iPod-based iTunes Music Store.

I thiunk WiFi would be awesome. I love using Telekenisis and even VNSea on my iPhone when I'm away from my computer (it's nice if I'm leaving for 2-3 days and don't need to bring my laptop). I mostly use it with the component cable to stream movies to my TV but I would love to be able to do the same with my iPod.

It wouldn't be as complex as what is on the iPhone but I would love to see just another option in the menu with something like "Back to my iTunes" that would allow you to connect to iTunes that the iPod is sync'd to. It could all be set-up through iTunes when the iPod is connected. I can't see it being too hard to do.

yeah
I think the ipod classic is ok
no need revision anymore...maybe just more colors

ipod nano definitely need a refresh...the square shape is hard to handle

dunno about ipod touch...

Intresting... I dont know it could possibly be better myself. :D
That is the beauty of Apple. They can make a whole new iPod that interests the customer in giving over their hard earned cash for the new iPod.

So very true! :)

iTouch Nano!!! You heard it here first.
That would make sense.

Flash players, except Shuffle, all to Touch design.

Classic players keep the wheel.

In the world of technology, as we all find out, does not revolve around us and what we own. Change is the constant. What you have will be obsolete sooner than you want. However, the device will still work fine for many years. So be happy and enjoy what you have. :)

Maybe, but it just seems like such a ridiculous wish to have the new iPods not have too many cool features because they want theirs to not become obsolete. Don't you think?

i would like to see storage and battery improvements, price-drops, and 1 or 2 more colors. for me there's plenty room for updates. ;)

They can revise the nano again?

Yes. The next updated nano will actually slip into the skull through the ear canal. And you'll be able to watch downloads of The Wire as they are projected to the back or your retina. Wonderful stuff, but the patent drawings still look like they were drawn by a 4th grader.

iTouch Nano!!! You heard it here first.

Mockup:
33pj76

(with basic phone capabilities)

Hmm the touch wouldn't get new tech before the iphone.. right?...

Am I the only one who thinks the iPhone & iPod Touch will be merged into one device someday soon? It will be "unlocked". Buy it now to use only as iPod, voip phone, etc, then down the road if you decide you need "cell service" you'll have the option to activate it on the service of your choice.
