I'll add to that sentiment as well.

This won't happen. First off, nano wouldn't be used by Apple for a new iPod name. Apple prefers simple words like mini, photo, and shuffle.

And if Apple did make this product, it would be a shuffle. Is it possible that all shuffles may get a screen at some point? Yes. Soon? I don't know. But it might happen at some point.

But this won't. This rumor is a steaming pile of crap.

I pretty much agree. Besides, what's Kevin Rose's rumor record these days anyway?

nah...i don't think if it's that a rumor, they'll put it in digg...imagine 1000++ digging into the story...i don't think he'll wanna spoil his reputation if its only a rumor...

However, i doubt if Apple will use the word "nano"...hehe... ;)

iPod Mini Mini
or
iPod Shuffle Mini
or
iPod Photo Mini
or
iPod Shuffle Photo (it reads out the name of the image and you imagine it :p )
(either than or it could use a built in RDF to make the world around you change to look like the picture...)

:)

Yeah, time for the Mac shuffle:

Your apps - a million different ways.

Tiny form factor, smaller than a Mac mini. Programmed to launch apps either alphabetically or in random order depending on where you set the slider to on the side of the unit. Small screen built into the top announces the app, click button allows selection of previous/next app, up/down on menu items and select menu item.

1.8" 80GB HDD, 512MB laptop RAM, 1GHz G4, separate optical drive as an accessory, no keyboard or mouse, 1xFirewire, 1xUSB2.0, mini-DVI out, audio out.

Hang on.... with a few adjustments, this is sounding kinda feasible, gimme a sec....

A colour changing, mood sensing case with a built in stubby cooler...

Ah, that's better eh?

Man, another confusing addition to the iPod lineup might be enough to burst the whole bubble wide open. Even I won't be able to keep them straight.

Why don't they spend time improving the iPod Software? Why is it still such a job to scroll through 2,000 artists to find the one you want (that's right, sometimes I don't know the genre, or know that an artist has multiple genres)?

Where's my G5 powerbook?!!! Next tuesday, you say?

I can't believe it's not bluetooth or wifi.

Read the thread, people. The mock up came from an iPodLounge contest and is DEFINITELY a fake. I could tell right away because the writing was not up to Apple's usual standards. "Cylindrically perfect"? Give me a break. And have you EVER seen an Apple ad that mentions the FONT of the display?

I don't think this is what will come out, certainly not this cylindrical device, which is otherwise rather cool.

I say: Take a regular iPod. Halve the width. Halve the depth. Reduce the length by 1/3rd or so. Have a screen like on that cylinder, more like 256x128 however, running down the length of the face of the player. Have a small thumb driven scroll wheel.

However, I'm thinking "one more day, what's the point in speculation" right now.

Yeah, the cylinder isn't coming out at all, it's a runner-up in an iLounge competition. Actually, the winner looks very nice and innovative, much better than this damn cylinder thing.

I agree with this one... :D

I agree i can't imagine Apple calling a new product of theirs Nano, it seems weird they seem to keep there names very simplistic...Nano must be a code name...

Anyway i am looking forward to the conference tommorow to see what we are presented with,

Yup yup yup. Besides, it's just a rip-off of the old Sony minidisc player wired remotes.

I second that emotion.

The cylinder looks nice, but isn't very practical. For a player with navigation, a display with longer lines would work much better.

Other rumors have pointed towards a device that is like a shrunken-down Mini, with a smaller but higher-res display. That would work better, and preserve the clickwheel user experience.

It won't be as narrow, but I don't think that is as important. It will be very thin and light, and come with a lanyard like the Shuffle.

Nano is a somewhat lame name IMO, but I guess we'll see.

I would buy a 4GB (or larger) flash iPod with full navigation (to replace my 40GB iPod due to better portability and durability), but 2GB is a little small.

Agree....
"Guys i've got a cool new gadget nano"
reply, "wtf is nano, the name itself is lame, i bet it's some lame a$$ gadget!"

As much as I respsect Kevin Rose, why would such news/rumors come out from him?

He is tech geek/nerd but come on, licking things like that.

Perhaps this iPod nano is the replacement for shuffle, but with a display.

Very likely

This is a reprint of other rumors. The phone is definetly happening and being called ROKR and working with Cingular. Everyone knows that. Everyone also knows that a new iPod (new line? update to existing line?) is in the works that uses flash. So this isn't far-fetched. However, the name iPod nano will NOT be used EVER and the pics he gives are just mock-ups rom iLounge. We'll see but this isn't a very credible source.

Either Kevin Rose is on crack or Apple is.

Why would you come out with a lower-end iPod with a color screen for the same price as the 4GB iPod-mini? If this rumor is true, Apple needs to update their entire lineup and pricing schemes.

Now that Toshiba is shipping 40GB 1.8" drives for their Gigabit players, Apple should use those to put in the minis. Make the mini the same as the iPod-photos just sleeker and at $249.

Then put more capacity into the regular iPods plus Sirius. It'd also be nice if they finally integrated the larger iPod with a PVR solution. Heck, I can already take my memory sticks and toss them in my friend's TV to watch recorded TV. Why shouldn't I be able the same with a firewire connection from my iPod?

Then I'd dump the 512MB shuffle and drop the 1GB shuffle to $99. This would open up a place for the Nano... although it'd either make the shuffle less attractive (if priced at $149) or it wouldn't make much sense to buy a Nano when a mini at $50 would have significantly more storage.

Honestly, do we really need a 4th type of iPod?!?!?!

We had 4 before ( Photo ,iPod, Mini, Shuffle)

perhaps this si just a why to get rid of the shuffle and replace it with a Flash based ipod with a screen
