We had 4 before ( Photo ,iPod, Mini, Shuffle)

perhaps this si just a why to get rid of the shuffle and replace it with a Flash based ipod with a screen

True, but I thought 4 types of iPods back then was overkill too.

I'm also not sure they'd want to kill the Shuffle since it seems to be selling well. I know in my office there were 5 of us with HDD iPods, but most people thought they were too much. Then the shuffles came out and about 15 people bought them. They liked that they were really small and replace their thumb drives they already had.

Personally, I don't like the shuffle, but apparently a lot of people do... at least the 512MB variety as the 1GB was too expensive. Just spend $50 and get 4x the storage with a screen... seems a no-brainer to me since if price was the issue, you'd just get the 512MB model.

I hope they just stick to 3 styles of iPod and update them across the board.

I'll add to that sentiment as well.

Would that make the new one an "iPoo"?

The shuffle is about size for me, i liek how it is small but hold one 1gb and the 1gb is only 129.

Plus they are good for running!

According to a new entry to Kevin Rose's blog, Apple is set to debut a smaller sibling to the iPod Mini along with the iTunes-compatible Motorola ROKR. The iPod Nano is expected to sport 2 GB of solid-state memory & color screen to display photos, but will be much smaller and thinner than the iPod mini.

Our source claims that the Nano will come with a necklace holder like the shuffle.

According to one of MY reliable sources; this was one of the reasons used for firing the whole TechTV staff - they had loose lips with the press and said a lot of things they shouldn't.

When did the whole TechTV staff get fired? Is this a recent thing?

Forget "nano" think video

Everyone has gone off scent with this nano garbage....Steve Jobs is an intelligent fellow and has been gathering media partners to launch IpodV for some time. Come tommorow the only new member to the ipod will be this model while the ipod mini will have a make over...and as allready announced by both apple and motorola the unveiling of an itunes compatiable phone (note this is not a new line). Check out http://www.digg.com/apple/Revolution_is_VIDEO
for further discussion and news....dont feed the nano rumors anymore! :)

the mock up of what someone expects the vPod to look like is terrible. That garbage would have been acceptable when there were jellybean iMacs and iBooks, but come now! :p

cant they come up wiht something more creative then ipod video? this has been talked about forever. maybe they will suprise us with something compltley revolutionary.

Looks like it's just speculation. From the competition rules at http://www.consumers4choice.org/site/PageServer?pagename=officialrules:

17. Prizes: One prize will be given for the winning entry. The Grand Prize is one (1) Apple Video iPod (Approximate Retail Value ("ARV") is $800). No prize substitution or cash redemption allowed by winner(s). Prize(s) are not transferable. Taxes are the sole responsibility of each winner. Sponsor reserves the right to substitute prize with similar prize of equal or greater value due to prize unavailability. If Apple does not release a Video iPod for retail purchase by December 31, 2005 at 11:59 PM EST, the winner will receive a non-negotiable prize of Creative Technologies’ Zen Vision Portable media player (ARV is $399.99).

TechTV USA was bought by Comcast and is now G4 - TechTV Canada still exists. All US staff was fired except the dunderheads that host xplay.

I think it happened sometime in February 05??

My little mockup is a bit more 'conventional' ... it's a similar form factor to the mini but smaller, less rounded on the sides and features a color screen:

That's a very nice form factor. Very modern. I would like to see something with that thickness make its way into the next mini flash models.

Kevin Rose = Dumbass who doesnt know what hes really talking about.

This is the same guy who tore apart a Mac Mini as soon as they came out and crammed a Micro ITX PC board in it.

That image has been floating around for the LONGEST time. Its orginally from an iLounge contest some years back.

iPod flea was great. :D I have it downloaded. iPod iTic. lmfao.

i sure hope that concept image wouldn't be even considered, its just an obese mini. I would feel weird looking at it compared to its slender brother :)

Hehehe .... interesting comment. Both images (mini and nano) are exactly the same width (in pixels). The nano is simply shorter in height and thinner in width from the side.

Totally implausible as well. The play button is about as wide as the screen is tall, which is only slightly more than the width of the headphones jack. If the jack is mini-stereo, i.e. 1/8", then the screen can't be more than .2" high. Besides being impossible to read at that size, the resolution is also ludicrous. 512x64 pixels in a 1.5"x.2" LCD? Not likely. That's a vertical density of 320 pixels per inch, and a horizontal density of 341 pixels per inch!!

Not to mention that a button .2" in diameter would be impossibly small to push.

Also, notice that both ends (shown closeup) are flat, but the profile of the entire device clearly shows a rounded end, almost bullet-like.

Still, its a cool concept. If Apple comes out with anything close to this it would probably be sweet. I just don't get the overlap between nano and shuffle if this is true...it makes shuffle look really bad.
