I would appreciate a new design (like iPhone 4), better processor, retina. Oh, and 3G, but it wouldn't be free for sure.

The iPod touch has got a retina display already.

I'd like 128gb storage.
Better rear camera.
Digital compass.

I'd also really like a 3G option, like what the iPad has.

Well the TC still hasn't been back yet to answer my original quest but I'll answer anyway.

Don't expect 3G.
The cameras are fine as they are so if they do decide to improve them don't expect a huge difference.
I can't really see the device getting a complete redesign (there isn't much to redesign as the entire front is a touch screen).
Improved hardware is a possibility but I don't think it is necessary, everything runs very well on the device as it is.
I would like to see Apple ditch the 8GB models and bump the low model to at least 16GB but I'm sure they still think that there are many users who can get by with 8GB so why spend extra money to give customers more.

We might see some small improvements in the next model but I honestly can't see a huge difference as the 4th Gen improves upon so much. One thing I would like to see though is GPS added.

seriously, don't wait, or by then you may as well wait until the 2012 version. The refresh is 8 months away, just buy now. You won't be able to tease someone who got their device almost a year before you. They won't care because they have been enjoying theirs for a while, and you have just been waiting for something that most likely won't be all that different.

This. Definitely just buy now.

i just got my itouch 4g yesterday in canada.

for the 5g i would want:
bluetooth transfer if it doesn't already exist
vibrate motor for typing gaming etc?

I don't expect really anything from apple this year on iPod touch. They will drop 8GB model for good and get on 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. 128GB still costs too much. I understand people's desire on carrying 100000 songs at one time on iPod touch and they end up listening only like 100 on a single trip, but hey w/e..

I don't expect 128GB storage.

I don't expect any upgrades other than CPU and RAM.

iPod touch is in even more tight budget with the base price at only 229 dollars.

Well lemme be realistic-

-512MB RAM over the current 256MB
-Maybe a better rear camera
-There were rumours that Apple is planning to implement new graphic card and processor in their iOS devices, we may see them.
-Probably an IPS panel
-Price changes - 16GB 230$, 32GB 300$, 64GB 370$ and 128GB 430$
..

So many updates, especially increase in memory of the base model to 16GB looks exaggerated but couldn't think of better pricing.

As said this is way too early to speculate. You can extend this thread so that we can speculate iPod 2050...

What I hope for....

1).The discontinuation of the 8GB. The 16GB should be in it's place for the same price tag. This should of happened the last update IMO.

2). Bluetooth transfer over your computer and vice versa. That way you can sync your contacts without wires. This helps when you are using someone else computer and they have some information you want.

3). New design. I feel like it should have the back casing of the iPad or a hybrid of the iPad and the iPhone. The current design seems a bit outdated to me.

4). Radio. Why is there a way to listen to radio everywhere there is a signal on the nano, yet if you are not in a wi-fi zone you are out of luck?
