How can you say that the only thing Apple is adding to the iPod touch is a camera?

Nobody has even seen the 3rd generation iPod touch yet, so why are you already dissing it? For all we know, the iPod touch with the camera was just a Photoshop mockup.

Pretty lame post in my opinion.

Well, the Zune HD lands on September 15th, so the OP is probably busy doing a web search (on Bing!) for all his local HD radio channels . . . ;)

I have never seen a Zune in real life nor met anyone that owns one. They don't sell them outside of the US and Canada, so to say it will overtake the iPod Touch is quite laughable. Will it do well? I hope so, they've worked hard on it. But since Microsoft announced it months before intro, Apple have had enough time to catch up.

I've never seen a Zune in real life either and I actually live in America. :p:D

The Zune looks great but I guarantee most of the people who get the Zune already have an iPod Touch and will probably get the next iPod Touch as well. The specs don't mean a whole lot for the average consumer. I dare say sales of all the other ipods are greater than the sales of the iPod Touch.

The fact the Zune doesn't work on Macs, the fact it has a very crappy software client for its use, the fact they are only selling just these two different sized models, and the fact they are only selling it in the US are not signs they want to overtake the iPod...

The only things in my opinion that the Zune HD will have over the 3g ipod touch are color choice (that blue Zune HD looks awesome) and OLED.

Once people see OLED screens they are going to be loathed to go back to LCD. The images produced just look so much more real than those on LCds

How do you know?

The average consumer looking to buy a new mp3 player probably doesn't really know the differences among AIFF, mp3 and AAC. What makes you think they care about OLED vs. LCD?

Besides, how many consumers can tell a LCD TV from plasma TV?

You mean until they go outside and can't see the screen right?

Most people don't care.

I really really care. Thats the only thing that makes me mad that the zune has over the iPod Touch. I would gladly pay 100 dollars extra just for the OLED screen option on a iPod Touch. I am still going to get a 3rd gen touch over a zune but I really really wish apple would/does stick an OLED screen on it.

Your right I preordered it on friday at best buy but I alreadu have a 1st and 2nd gen touch and might buy the 3rd gen depending on new features.

I don't see how you can say something is going to be a epic fail even before the details are out.I hope the zune hd does well but if it is only limited to the states i think that could hut them in terms of sales.Getting rid of all the other zunes i am not sure if that is good or bad it could back fire on them.As for the touch it has alot going for it now a bigger hard drive a camera maybe a couple other small things and it could be a perfect or close to it device.Another thing the touch is avaible world wide which is an advantage.Aslo unlike zune apple atleast from rumors is upgrading there other players which again could be an advantage.

Every single customer I've shown them to side by side over the last four years.

i live in america and i've never seen a zune irl

however, if apple doesnt include something compelling like gps
i doubt i'm going to buy an new touch,
i'm sure by this time next year touch will be dual core (i hear?) processor, surely gps

and much more brands offering new devices

The Zune HD finally looks like a good device. I'm sure it will be too. There are also a lot of other really nice PMP out there, some with way more to offer than iPods.

But it comes down to a name...people call PMP's iPods even if they aren't iPods. Apple will continue to dominant this market no questions asked.

LOL, seems I was right. Epic fail.

Would have been nice to have a camera and a couple other things sure.Is this touch a epic fail no because its a good device as it is.Were not talking a about a brand new devices the touch has been around for a few years and has been successful.I hope the zundhd does well but with only beeing avaible in the states could hurt them.

Ummm, only if you're desperate to reach that conclusion irrespective of the facts. Re: your original message:

Processor and graphics: iPod updated. Point no longer to Zune.

Price: no more 16gb Touch, so direct comparison doesn't work. Apple's spiel is that the number of people jumping on board goes up disproportionately if you can get below $200. Apple now have a model below $200, Microsoft don't.

There are a lot of posts above this, so I assume your other subjective comments have already been ripped apart, but for the record: your battery life comment is pure speculation and therefore isn't worthy of credit; I've no idea why you think that IE6 is top notch software when the entire rest of the Internet has thought the opposite for years; your "army of developers" claim is just unsourced speculation, and its credibility isn't aided by your claim that reaching 75,000 applications will "not take long".

Suppose I'm a developer. I'm planning a new product. To help Microsoft reach the parity you think is coming, I need to develop for the Zune and not for for iPod. So I need to choose to develop for the platform with 1.5% of the market in one country and not also for the platform with more than 70% of the market in all countries. In reality, if I'm going to develop for the former then I'm also going to develop for the latter.

Yes all the ipod users will be dumping their ipods for Zunes, Microsoft will double their amazing marketshare overnight.
