Yes that is a very useful observation thank you and that should hope fully be the date but I dont know for sure. But as some may know apple have released most of their newer products like the iPod touch 4th gen and iPhone 5 on the 12th as well so maybe this is a sign.

I pre-ordered the new ipod touch at Best Buy on Sept. 30. They tell me that:

Apple® - iPod touch® 32GB MP3 Player (5th Generation - Latest Model) - Slate

Pre-order release date is 11/04/2012.

That may very well be the case for Best Buy pre-orders but my order at the Apple Store clearly states, "Available to ship in October" and I plan to hold them to it. Clearly, Apple has prioritized their manufacturing bandwidth on higher volume and profit iPhone 5 units ahead of iPod Touch.
 
For the past few days the NZ Apple Store still said "Preorder", they now say "Buy Now" but still just "October". I rang the electronics store who advertised the new iPods for preorder and they said that Apple has already released them and they are just waiting for stock. However, I'm not sure this is completely accurate because I'm sure they would release them on the Apple site before 3rd party retail stores!

Strange...it's supposed to be a case for the new iPod touch, but the the iPod in the picture is missing a row of icons? I saw a couple of others like that too. Maybe it's just lazy photoshopping :p

The UK Apple Store also has the 'Buy It Now' button.
It says items will be dispatched in October. I think it will be shipped pretty soon, with the first orders in the next week or so.

on another note: Really like the ipod design, went for the black&slate myself
 
Hmm.... tempted to order it online.... can't be much longer now.

I think this 2012 iPod Touch is a very nice upgrade. Strangely, I'm looking forward more to this iPod Touch than that so-called iPad Mini. At least I'll have a lovely retina display on the Touch.
 
Ordered a iPod Touch and a iPod Nano in Sept (probably end up giving them away on my YouTube channel after Ive reviewed them!).

Both of mine say they have dispatched and should be with me tomorrow!!!!!!!!!

No development yet, neither on the Apple Store nor on Amazon. Why not? What are they waiting for to announce the release date?
 
Does anyone know, concerning the last iPod touch, how large the gap between date announcing and actual releasing the product was? One week maybe? Perhaps two?
 
May not be much, if I try to check my order status it says there is an error...

EDIT: never mind, it's back up, same as usual.

I'm having the same problem. It says the information I give it (order number and zip code) doesn't match anything they have on file. What's up with that?

Also went through the store to see if there is any date change if you were ordering right now and it still just says shipping in October...
