It's similar. The 4S is a tad better, but really not all that noticeable beyond the size difference.

Now, compared to the iPhone 5/5C/5S, the difference is much greater. If the 4S was decent for you, I'd say you'd probably be happy with the touch.

So what are the best camera apps to use when taking pics with the iPod 5?

I personally use Litely and Hipstamatic.

Litely is far more subdued by comparison, but provides great results. Hipstamatic provides some really interesting results that are pretty unique. More extreme, and definitely "filtered", but even so - I've got a few prints I've had made up from photos taken in Hipstamatic in my living room and office.

I do occasional photo work, and a lot of dev work - one of my dev devices is a 5g Touch, and while I was skeptical of it in the beginning, it can really come in handy for quick shots with surprisingly good results. Colors could be a little more saturated, but hey - that's what something like the photos app or Litely are for.

In my opinion, the best photo editing apps for iOS are PicFX and Afterlight. Both are extremely good and offers a lot of options :) My personal favorit is Afterlight :)

An iPod is a great tool for photography, whatever anyone says. It's more restricted than a DSLR, sure, but for those moments when you see a photographic opportunity and don't have your DSLR with you you'll be happy you had an iPod.

Just remember the price, and compare that against the alternatives. Personally I'm selling all my DSLR gear and moving over to an olympus e-m10. It's small enough that I'll be taking it with me a lot more. However, the apps you can get on the iPod allow you to process your photos immediately, which is a big plus.

Just to show you that it's the person behind the camera, and not the camera itself, that matters, check out the iPhone photography awards and be inspired :) http://www.ippawards.com/

Thank you for your answer! I'll probably go with the iPod. And thank you for the link! :)

That site is a great resource to see just what can be done with these devices. Great link. :)

I just got my iPod, and I'm really happy. It is exactly what i was looking for! Of course it isn't at the same level as a DSLR, but it still takes really good photos. I'm going to attach some photos that i took with the iPod on my way home. It's no professional photos, but just so you get an idea of the camera quality.

I also want to say thanks to everyone that helped me deciding! Thank you!

EDIT: I hope the camera quality didn't get bad when I uploaded the photos. However, it looks really good on the retina display on the iPod! :)

Good stuff, enjoy your new purchase! Along with the other apps that have been mentioned I realised that I didn't put the one I use most regularly - Camera+.

Keep snapping

Since i had a iPhone 4s before, how do you guys think the iPods camera is compared to the iPhone 4s? That'll maybe give me an idea of what the iPod's camera is like! :)

EDIT: I know it has the same resolution as the iPhone 4. But how i the camera quality and stuff like that compared to the 4s?

The iPod touch's optics is on par with iPhone 5's down to the sapphire crystal lens cover so its better than 4s. The only differentiator would be the resolution of 5MP versus 4s' 8MP. Again, Apple has made it clear over the years that resolution =/= quality. so iPod touch 5 =/= iPhone 4 camera.

This photo was taken with an iPod touch of my friend:

This is from my 5s:
