that looks pretty cool, do you have to always be connected to a wifi?
and can it work with any gps app in the app store or just the elf app?

You can use the GPS with any offline app that uses the Core Location Framework API. The Bad Elf website identifies applications that should work without being connected via 3G. The Bad Elf app only does two things right now: (1) updates the GPS firmware, and (2) updates the satellite information to obtain better lock times. To perform either of these functions, you'll need a WiFi connection, but the data persists in the accessory after disconnecting.

Does anyone know if any GPS company out there is about to release GPS add-on (or receiver) for iPod Touch or iPhone? From quick Googling, I only found some rumors of beta-testing and what not, newest one posted in April 2008.

I'm craving for an iPod Touch but my husband is not letting me buy one unless Touch has promised GPS capability :( Please help me out here!

Then have his GPS-enabled touch cook and do laundry for him! Seriously, GPS-enabled iPod would make a lot of sense as it could serve for geotagging of photos, to track a running/biking route, etc. Preloaded maps could be done the same - TomTom, for example, does not rely on Internet. Apple, I have a couple of extra "Benjamins" that could be spent on such device. :)

That's pretty bad marketing...calling the add-on GPS bad elf. Who thought of that? I know there are bluetooth gps units and there is tom tom and navigon maps that work on a JB iPhone so they should work on an touch too, but I dunno if a 3rd party BT GPS would work with the software.

I think I'll stick with my Bluetooth gps keyring dongle and roqybt or btstackgps from cydia all at the grand total of less than £10

Of course that needs you to jailbreak your iPod though

Hi!

You may wanna try GPS Tuner. I bumped into it on AppStore, it has just been released for iPhone as I read. It provides a lot of solutions! Read the description! It might help you!

Can you point me to this dongle? How does the quality work?
