i had my ipod out of a case for a week after i got it and it got scratched up pretty badly. then i got an invisible shield and a switch easy case and i havent had a new scratch on it since. my invisi shield has scratches on the screen though

I have used an Agent 18 invisible shield on my Touch since about a week after I got it. It still looks flawless after a year and a half of use:

There's no sense in scratching the back when a cheap case can take the brunt of the damage for you. I figure it'll at least keep the value high, and even if I don't sell it, I can have the satisfaction of seeing a perfect iPod. :)

Has anyone ever INTENTIONALLY scratched their iPod? Like tried to make it look like brushed aluminum? Like this:

Apparently you do it with a rough side of a sponge. If you did, how did that work for ya?

I put on invisible shield the day I got mine. It was too sticky for me so I removed it from the screen and what'd ya know... it scratches. I have 3 deep ones in it from keys and zippers i'm assuming.

Bloody hell. Not far off 3 years. Good whinging, folks!

I got an iPhone in the end. Though must admit I like the brushed metal.

The back getting scratched up is more of an issue if you upgrade frequently and plan on selling your iPod within a year or so to someone else.

Also, the back is not only shiny, it's very slippery.

I just installed the BSE skin to the back of the touch and it solved both problems. The film gives the back a slightly tacky feel that prevents it from sliding around and makes it less likely that it will slip out of your fingers and plummet to a concrete death. With it on the back also looks damn near perfect (couple of tiny air bubbles, but, so what).

I have previously used the Invisible Shield and got similar results but I have to say that I'm really impressed with the quality of the film and accuracy of the cut on this new iTouch skin from BSE it fits perfectly. Even my wife who doesn't notice such things said "wow, that skin thing you put on your iPod looks and fits great".

I am also so impressed with the BSE on my iPod Touch. The back looks like it is brand new plus it gives it a little more grip.

the back of the ipod gets scratched due to exposure to air. it is as simple as that. Apple created magical metals that scratch incredibly easy. and yeah, i did a brush metal look on the back on 5g ipod and the back of my touch 2g doesn't look too hideous...yet.

Mine is a little scratched. I have it in a cheap plastic case to keep it from getting totally destroyed. These things are impossible not to get some scratches on them.

My wifes fortnight old iPod Touch 32GB Vs my shiny new, one day old 8GB:

She's been throwing her 32GB in her bag with keys/purse/whateverwomencarry rubbing against it. :(

well, not many ppl care about the back but i think it would be a much better choice if apple went with anodized aluminum like they do with the macbooks. if it was anodized, maybe even make it have dif colors like the nano. i think that would be cool. i would totally buy a black one.
