The RELATIVE COST is not $2000. What are you comparing it to? It might be that amount if you do not use a phone, but it's actually the same cost (or cheaper) than other smart phones.

I was comparing it to the iPod touch, just like the thread title implies. I was merely pointing out and obvious but major difference between owning a touch and an iPhone. I didn't say anything about smartphones or satellite phones. Relax jeez...
Someone else mentioned it, but tethering is easy if you have a Windows Mobile phone. I tether my ipod touch off of my treo to get internet access everywhere. This is the program you need: http://www.wmwifirouter.com/
I pay $50 per month to sprint... this is for TWO Treos with voice data and text messaging. I would end up paying $70-80 per month for ONE iphone.
