Apple today removed the iPod touch's product page from its website in all remaining countries where the page was still available, such as the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia, marking a final farewell to the portable music player.

Apple announced that it was discontinuing the iPod touch back in early May, and the device is now completely unavailable to order from its online store nearly one month later. It may still be possible to find the iPod touch at select Apple Authorized Reseller locations while supplies last, but inventory is likely very limited by this point.

Apple's newly announced iOS 16 software update is not compatible with any iPod touch models, according to Apple's website.

First introduced in October 2001, the iPod was one of Apple's most iconic products, but the device's discontinuation became inevitable over time given the wide array of Apple products that can now play music, including the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, HomePod mini, and more. The latest seventh-generation iPod touch model was introduced in May 2019.

"The spirit of iPod lives on," Apple's marketing chief Greg Joswiak said last month.

I really liked rocking my Ipod Touch 3, 4, and 5th gen. However, the same dinky 4" screen was what did it in for me, and the reason I never went beyond the IpT5. At least the previous 2 upgrades improved the screen (Retina, then going from 3.5" to 4"). I will acknowledge that others liked the 4" size to reuse the same clips and protective cases, and how it's even more compact than the smallest iPhones, but I ended up doing a complete 180 on IpT vs. Ipads. Especially when the 1st gen Ipad Air was purchased for half off ($400, used), and a new, 9th gen Ipad can be had for $300.

I heard that Apple only kept making Ipod Touches b/c they had surplus parts for them (which would explain whey they kept the same 4" display). Once those were done, it made sense to kill the line.

RIP iPods! The iPod Classic 160GB is just the ultimate iPod, this one is too much like an iPhone...

Though I haven't owned an iPod in years, it's kinda sad to see it go. Would be nice if Apple added something like an "Apple History" section to their website. A place where you can learn about the early years, culture-changing products (iPod would rank high among these), stuff about Steve Jobs and the early founders, etc. to bring in some humanity would be refreshing. As it is, Apple's brand is so freaking clinical it's a tad creepy.

I figure I'll probably be able to get another 2-3 years out of the last touch (bought in 2020) before apps stop getting updates, then it'll just be a music player.

A sad day indeed.

Apple is a corporation, and corporation by definition is soulless and ruthless after all.
What you want is only achievable through wiki, personal website and alike, that documents Apple’s past, glory and mistake alike.

Wow, no love has spared on the iPod touch. Complete obliteration.
It’s an obsolete product so in Apple’s mind it must go.
Well, support will last a few years but no new ones could be purchased.

o_O I can't believe that Apple isn't supporting the latest iPod Touch that they sold a matter of weeks ago. This is very unfriendly to all of who might have just purchased one. Maybe they plan on keeping iOS 15 up-to-date with security for another two years at least? Otherwise, how is Apple Support going to support them without any software updates? This makes no sense from even Apple's support perspective. I've never seen them drop the latest OS support from any product that was still under AppleCare before. AppleCare will be for another two years, at least, with the latest iPod Touch.

I'm shocked, to say the very least!

Rubbish move from 'Environmentally friendly' Apple.

Completely arbitrary considering the A9 2GB ram iPad 5 is getting supported.

Given they were selling this at full price as a new item just a month ago, it's pretty unforgivable.
Agreed, while it is understandable from their point of view, It's a company that pride itself of supporting device for long time.

So they should have removed the iPod years ago or support with OS updates something that was on sale since a month or so ago.

It’s possibly been they tried an early iOS 16 build on it & a lot of the features would not have worked on it.
