Same Problem Here

I have the same difficulty getting on some public hot-spots. I was actually going to post a thread on this myself (for some reason, actually decided to follow rules and search first ). I have an jailbroken 1.1.2 Touch but it has always had difficulty with public hotspots before/after jailbreaking. It recognizes my Airport Express 802.11g WPA network without a hitch every time. But, when I'm in a public area, I'll see four or five networks shown, but maybe only 50% of the time be able to connect to any of them. Using installer.app I installed Stumbler which shows me that they have great signal strength, etc... I have not checked for whether the IP addresses are 169, but will do so next time I have this problem. If anyone has any other suggestions, I'd love to hear them. Thanks a ton.

my resolution to touch getting a 169.xxx address

Hi

New here. Just wanted to let anyone interested in knowing.

I tried most of the solutions posted to get my iPod Touch to recognize my wireless lan (home). I use WEP 128bit key. I was connecting to the lan but it was phantom in that I was not getting an real IP address from the router(linksys router).

I had never seen case sensitvity on any of my other computers for the key passing so I didn't really think that was the solution.

After much reading "put a $", " " force upper case", "use Open..."
I decided to try my first thought regarding the WEP key....

The key usually has multiple (4 in my case) key indexes and that is not a configuable value in the touch. So, I changed my router to use key index 1 and my problem was solved.

Hope this helps

WEP Default Transmit Key Change

I know as part of troubleshooting this problem I moved my WEP Default Transmit Key to "1" on my Linksys. This has solved my problem on my Touch, but now I have to go around and change all of the WEB keys in my wireless laptops, as I prefer using 3 or 4. HMM, I am curious if this may be an undocumented bug with the IT & IP? Only authenticate with WEP key 1. I know I had my touch working on my WEP key 3 before.

Thanks again!
