I'll tell you what I said when I first saw the iPod…
Edit: And they did, and they have been ever since…

The iMac wasn't a niche product for Apple fans.
I just think of this every time someone unironically says about a new product "This will be the END of Apple!"Oh MAN am I tempted to DM all the nay sayers from that original thread.
This was my first iPod, and still my favorite. Loved the light-up red buttons, loved the touch wheel, loved the super-long headphone remote, and it came with a dock included and a freaking leather case. And you could play brick smasher or whatever game that was.I still have my 15gb 3rd generation. The OG iPod Touch, since it was the first touch sensitive iPod with no click or physical buttons. still gets used and works great. I always thought the clickwheel was a step backwards from this design in some ways.

Looking at the archives of this site, I sure do miss some of the old days, and chatting with users no longer active here!
The iPod was a failure until iTunes for Windows was made.
iMacs weren't as mainstream as the iPod later became. But they also weren't confined to Apple fans.Less so than the decade of Macs before it sure, but I went most of my childhood without encountering Macs in daily life. iPods on the other hand were everywhere.
Sounds a lot like the same type of comments we hear today regarding new Apple products.
not sure I agree. Most complaints today are about poor quality.
Is it possible to change the battery? Where could be possible to find it?
There are already two products similar to this on the market. The Nomad Jukebox and the Archos Jukebox which can come with a 20 gig hard drive.
I had the Nomad jukebox, and it really kicked butt, but it was HUGE, the size of a "portable" DVD player/discman back then, and then I transitioned to the Archos portable video player, which was a REALLY nice device (with maybe the worst customer service of any company in existence), and you could record video directly off of TV/cable out plugs.
So no, I personally never really thought the iPod was a great device.
Adding the phone changed everything.
