Hi there, considering my username is a central part of this little blurb, I think I should clear up whatever I can.
What I
know:
- This was an email from Apple, with a direct link to the deal. It only specified the 10 GB iPod, and it doesn't appear to be available through the Apple website, and is not valid at Apple Retail Stores.
What I think this means:
- iPod updates
before March 14! The blurb says after, but that's Mac Rumors talking, not me.
If Apple were to update iPods after the 14th, the deal would (in theory, at least) include the 20 GB model.
- The real gem here isn't the date, it's the model. Let's assume that Apple is updating the iPod line
before the 14th (I'd be surprised if they let the "Holiday Demand" excuse run into March).
That means the 20 GB model is changing. Why? Because it isn't offered in the deal. It's that simple.
One last thing I want to touch on:

Upgrades
are due. The last revision to the iPod line was at MWNY, and since then quite a bit has changed.
Most importantly, Toshiba has quit making the 5 GB drive, and forced Apple into not selling the 5 GB iPod. This leaves a gaping hole at the low end of the iPod line. Apple knows that it needs a $299 model, which is what the 10 GB one is supposed to become.
Maybe Apple will settle for a two Pod line, with a $299 10 GB and a $399 slimmer 20 GB. We are making assumptions about the possibility of a 40 GB model, but there's evidence to back those assumptions up.
My advice, don't buy an iPod now. You'll have a $100 case of Apple buyer's remorse afterwards.
