Good gravy, whats wrong with paper?? I can't believe you cant take any kind of drinks in there anymore. Does anybody know what chemicals it is in drinks that makes them potentially dangerous? I hope they serve free unlimited drinks and food on the plane, because I'm usually starving by the time I get on the plane.

Sounds like a lot of paranoia to me.

It wasnt the actual drink, theyd replace the drink with other harmful chemicals.

I'm sitting in San Francisco airport right now (on the way home from WWDC). No problems with laptop, ipod or phone. I was told to get here 3.5 hours early due to lines. Well, I got here, checked luggage and made it through security in 10 minutes.

LAX may be a different matter... :)

I was imagining a nearby day when you'd check your clothes at security and everyone would be issued a set of scrubs and slipper socks to wear while on the plane. You could recover your street clothes at your destination.

I hope I never see that day.

Good luck with your flight devman!

MSP was no issue yesterday. iPod, PowerBook, and phone all came through. We'll see about JAX or DTW next week.

well they can make an object look liek a book ,and put a space to put a liquid container inside(see The Simpsons episode where Marge gets arrested for drunk driving, Homer has a bible that has a compartment to put liquor in) But that probally is doubtful
Yeah, that's possible, but you know how to check? Have them open the book and fan the pages.

And even with all this ****, and over 1 billion USD given to the airlines, Amtrak still gets shafted. Less than a billion dollars could revamp all the Amtrak-owned rights-of-way, probably buy some more, and possibly bring the Acela outside of Boston <-> D.C. But as long as we have McCain and buddies around and in control, that's just not going to happen.

Glad to hear it. I was wondering how many problems people would encounter traveling home from WWDC.

However, it's too much paranoid overreaction for me. I dropped my plane ticket and rented a car. I always did like the drive from SF to Phoenix. :)

Wow all this because of a handful of people, what like 50 max?? How many passengers have traveled via airlines since 2001 till now? millions at least. Talk about how a few bad apples ruin flights for everyone. I swear I hate terrorists just for the fact that I have never done them anyharm yet they get our govenrments paranoid that in turn affect the way I live.....nsa spying, airports,***** gas prices, and even going to sporting events.

Sad just sad

US flights with electronics are good to go. At least that is what my airline is telling me. I fly from SNA to SYR next week. I'm a bit nervous as I haven't flown in over 15 years, I haven't ever traveled alone, and I am generally nervous about forgetting things. :(
In other words, I'm a puss.

The chemicals are... Diet Coke and Mentos! ;) :D .

Seriously though, the goverments have gone over board with protecting us. And to the person who said if we change the way we live, the terrorists will win.

You're flying to Syracuse? Interesting. I lived there for a decade, and we have quite a few members in the area.

Best of luck with your flight. I'm sure it will go well.

Thanks.

Well I'm sitting at LAX now and there were no problems here either.

Enjoy the drive!

That was one of my favorite myth busters! I had no idea that could happen.

Anyways for those that have to pack your laptop as checked luggage (UK). Nothing is ever safe when it comes to your checked luggage. I once saw them park the baggage car on top of a bag, the guy looked at the bag and didn't pay it any attention. Unless you have a reinforced padded bag/suitcase to check then don't take your laptop!

One of my favorites too, but where have you been. This has been everywhere in the past month or two. Even Letterman!

Yeah I'm just there for the night and then I think I'm going to Niagara Falls. I don't know...I honestly have ZERO plans for the 18th, 19th, and the 20th during the day, but I have to be somewhere Sunday night.

man, this sucks, i was planning on knocking out my summer reading on a my flight to alaska (i'm leaving in 1 day). i cant believe they are banning books!!! oooh well, i suppose it's better to be safe than sorry.

The Electronics thing bothers me as well, but not as much, i usually try to fly JetBlue as much as possible for the following reasons

1 all Leather seats. :)

2 ~30 Channels of Direct TV :) :D

3 they fly out of a small little airport thats litterally less than 2 miles from my house. :) :D :)

Just a bit of an update for UK travellers.

Apparently, while you can't bring books, magazines, or drinks through the security checkpoint, once you're past you can buy those items at the airport shops and take them onto the plane... unless you're travelling from the UK to the US, in which case you're not allowed to purchase such items on the other side of the security checkpoint either. (This all from BBC radio this morning.)

Ugh... I've got a flight at the end of the month, and I'm not too happy at the thought of packing my PB in checked baggage.

this is ridiculous. What are you going to do with an iPod; play the pilot country music until s/he passes out? And what is a terrorist going to do with a newspaper? Give them papercuts until they faint?

The real terrorists are the people in power, who are slowly but surely taking away the rights of civilians until we (by 'we' I mainly mean USA, England and Australia; the big three "anti-terrorist" countries) become dictatorships, with the people in power telling us to do something otherwise the terrorists will get us

i wonder when they will ban shoes. They can hurt if you hit someone with them... and the laces could be used to strangle someone...
But i had better not say too much... i might give ideas to "terrorists".

I'm flying from NY to Calif. From what I understand all electronics are allowed. Does anyone Know if the X-ray machine scanner thingy will destroy film?

Hmm haven't seen Letterman in a while. I usually watch Sci-fi and I'm trying to finish up my M.S. :( Hope to be done in Dec....

You might develop independent thought. God Forbid.

Take a copy of Farenheit 451 and see what they do.

I don't even think you take luggage anymore. With these rules who the hell wants to fly anyway.
