UPDATE NOW AVAILABLE 2.0.8.1 ** See FAQ at bottom of post

Im pleased to announce the next version of iRealSMS. For those of you who have it you will be happy to know that it is going to be a free upgrade! I was also informed that a stand alone plugin(a LITE version) will also be sold that will have QUICKREPLY and QUICKSEND, but will not include the main app(I believe this is for people that perfer to use the stock apple app, or already paid for BiteSMS and dont want to fully commit to another text app).. which I believe will be priced at $6.25US. Im pretty excited because I actually highly influenced the new features as it pertains to quicksend. The dev and I have been working together and dedicating pretty much all our free time to making this work the way we envisioned, so as to be the most convenient and noninvasive as possible(in regards to keeping it as simple as possible) with a few extras here and there and also for it to function without bugs, right out the box.

    New Features:
QuickSend = A simple tap of the VOLUME UP key gives you the ability to compose a new text message from anywhere(including the lockscreen when enabled via settings), from any app, without having to launch the main app and without exiting your current app. It also gives you the added option to call a contact so it doubles as quick way to access your contacts for a phone call as well(kinda like Quickgold)
For those wondering how the volume is affected, a second consecutive tap of the Volume Up key will close QuickSend and will allow normal volume control(as long as all taps are consecutive the QuickSend wont toggle back up).
As you can see this takes its simple UI from QuickReply, with the added ability to choose a contact from your contact list, and since it still utilizes predictive text you only have to type in part of the name and it will give you a scrollable list of contacts in which to choose from. It also supports adding multiple contacts for sending a text to more than one person.

After you start typing in a message, the CALL button then turns into a SAVE button, in which you can save you message to drafts for sending at a later time, or you can press the home key to hide quickSend without clearing text you have entered so far. Upon pressing Volume Up, your message will still be there and you can continue where you left off. It also has a character counter in the corner as well.

There also have been some notable additions to the QUICKREPLY.
There is also a CALL button, so you can call the sender as opposed to replying. By tapping SHOW you can also launch iRealSMS main app if you want to view the entire conversation or wish to use other features such as forward or what have you.
As you can also see, before you type in any text, there is a ghost image within the text field showing exactly how many new text messages you have waiting. You can answer them one by one.. or lets say you unlock you phone and you have 6 messages waiting, and you dont want to answer or even view them now... a simple press of the home button will close all the messages and keep them marked as new/unread.

All of these features are also available in the lockscreen.(when using either feature from the lockscreen the phone will automatically go back to sleep after hitting the send key, this is intentional behavior) But you have to enable it via the settings tab if you wish to be able to quickreply in lockscreen. (A helpful hint: When you do either from the lockscreen the lockscreen defaults to sleep after 5 seconds... to overide this, doubletap the home key the way you would to bring up the iPod controls and this will give you a 1 minute sleep time.)

As you may also have noticed the BLACKLIST feature! Currently it only will blacklist SMS messages(in which it will not show any kind of notifications on incoming texts coming from the designated contacts. But I believe future updates will also blacklist calls as well.

Thats it! Hope you all like it. Should be available now!

    FAQ**
Q: How can I increase the time the lockscreen is lit when I receive a quickreply or send a quicksend?
A: Currently the screen autosleeps in 5 seconds. This is stock behavior and was left this way intentionally so your battery wont die because your screen stays lit when you recieve a text. Currently there is no way but Im going to talk to the dev to see if there is some way we can tweak the UI for this.

Q: When is the LITE version being released?
A: Dev told me a couple days after the FULL version. So your guess is as good as mine. I will keep you posted when I receive more info.

Q: Will iRealSMS be compatible with iBlacklist?
A: The iRealSMS dev and iBlacklist dev are currently working together to make their apps compatible with one another. From what Ive been told by the dev, iRealSMS is compatible, but with the upcoming release of iBlacklist, which should be released in a week. Same goes for Mcleaner, although no release date has been given to us.

Q: Auto-correct doesnt work correctly in QuickSend, it wont let me dismiss recommended word, anyone else experiencing this?
A: Yes, we all are Having this issue. Thanks! Bug reported.

    Anyone else has these problems?

    1) When the phone is unlocked and new SMS arrives, I get 2 notifications one right after the other about a new message.
    2) I am still unable to normally use QuickReply. When I reply to a new message unsing QuickReply the notification about new message doesn’t go away. Sometimes it doesn't even go away when I go in and out of the app, and stays until I delete the whole conversation or that particular message.

Update: When the new message notification doesn't go away I use "Unread SMS Fixer"
Is it my phone corrupting messages or the application? :(
I have recently restored it as I had same problem, and restore didn't seem to help. Running iPhone 3G in US with firmware 2.2.1.

    Thanks! :)

    quick reply does not work

half way through writing my reply it closes and iRealSMS opens up and i have to write it all again

also quick sms is a pain in the ass. when in a call and you increase the volume it opens up. when watching a video/playing music it opens up. can you disable quicksms during calls/if iPod app is running?

    Thanks

Hey thanks about the notifications, I enabled compatibility to see if it would fix the non going away new message notifications... And I did run it as default, I installed MySMS now, I bough a license a while ago for $5, and it actually works like it's supposed to, improved alot since then.

QuickReply is annoying, if developer could have at least made it pop like on hold. Hold the Vol+ for 3 sec and it shows up would be great. However he didn;t reply to any one of my email that I send to support. What a shame, MySMS at least has a forum for people to post problems. :(

Toggle OFF Compatibility Mode and that will resolve your double message popup. Toggle ON mark all messages as read in advanced settings.
When you receive a message or multiple messages you have 3 options. You can reply or hit the close button...both of which will mark the message as read and move you to the next message. OR if your in a rush and dont want to read your messages, you can hit the HOME button. This will work as a "CLOSE ALL" button, while keeping the message marked as unread. That way you know what messages still need attention. If you have a problem and the SMS notification doesnt go away. Launch iRealSMS, go to the SMS tab at the bottom, select the INBOX folder, hit EDIT, and choose option MARK ALL AS READ. This will do as it says and mark all as read, removing new message notifications you may have.

Currently this is the only hotkey and in a future release we will be adding the ability to change the hotkey to possibly the the HOME button double tap... As far as volume function, QuickSend was designed so a single tap to the Volume UP will launch quickSend, a second consecutive tap will close quickSend and allow normal Volume controls. Not too hard to get the hang of really.

A message forum is in the works and I will be the one of the admin. If you like you can direct questions to me. I will inform you later when the forum is up and running. We are doing our best to upgrade not only our product but our customer service and relationship with the community. Thank you for trying our product. Most traffic and the easiest way to get in touch is through threads on both mmi ModMyi and as humorous as it may sound Xsellize.
I will try to frequent this site as well, but the response here was null up until this point.

??? Doesn't it say there is a plugin version that just adds quick reply and quick send to my normal SMS app? This is exactly what I'm after. But where do I find it

Just been having a brief play with it and i like it....

It would be nice if you could get receipt notifications working with the quick reply part of the program.

I gave up on iRealSMS after I wrote the developer informing him about several bugs and UI issues and months later I never got a reply and most of the issues still exist.

I use biteSMS now. It might not have as many features but they are adding them slowly, while keeping things very stable, clean looking and almost bug-free. For me iRealSMS had too many blatant bugs and UI flaws and a very unresponsive developer.

I appreciate your comments and understand being a little reluctant to give our product another try. I do also agree that bitesms is a great product. But I urge you to at least take advantage of our free 10 day trial. We promise not to disappoint and like stated earlier are looking into setting up a dedicated forum for irealsms comments, info, bug reports and concerns. You have nothing to lose and a possible new favorite SMS app to gain.

irealsms is a great app but needs to get the fundamentals right first like completely being the default sms , i purchase the 2.8.1 and it drive me nuts when the stock sms alert pops up instead of irealsms i never had this problem with bitesms. When ireal is the default the quickreply does work while using the phone it doesn’t pop up and the text sound doesn’t work either The funny part is the trail worked better then the paid one i dont get it am i missing somthing here ?

It does completely take over as default app.
Make sure your setting are correct.
    Default app ON
    compatability mode OFF
    Show SMS alerts ON
Wiether you want all the quick reply or quicksend On is up to you and makes no difference. Respring to ensure all settings take effect properly.
And thank you for your support!

    QuickSMS when in Lockscreen

Hi. I just bought iRealSMS and loving it. But there's one problem I ran into... When the iphone screen is dark and I press the volume up button, quickSMS comes up but after about 5 seconds or so the screen turns off again. Is this intended?

    Thanks

    Tak

Never mind I found out this behaviour is intended and is getting fixed in the next release. Any idea when this is going to be?

    Thanks

I havent fallen on this type of behavior before. Do you have any apps installed that may be trying to hook into iRealSMS' quickreply or popups? Such apps could be BiteSMS, or iBlacklist, Mcleaner... I believe this may be a compatibility issue.

Right now iRealLITE is priority on our list. And that should be released within the next few days. After its release we will be working on another update. Dont quote me but I say maybe another week away... nothing major, but just some more bug fixes and hopefully we will be implimenting a toggle to switch between hotkeys for quicksend.
