The vast majority of people getting worked up about this don’t need a new iPhone anyway. Every year people question if they should upgrade but the loudest voices this year are basically saying, if they are going to be honest, “The 2017 iPhone is expected to look dramatically different and that is all I care about now.” It should come down to user experience and it’s sad that, that is getting moved to the bottom of the priority list for some people.

Some are suggesting Apple is removing the headphone jack this year so it won’t be such a negative on next year’s iPhone. Get all the whining out of the way and accept the future.
I definitely agree most of the die yards will still purchase again this year even though people who still own the original 6 seem to think it is still satisfactory. Apple does such a fantastic job getting us to buy the latest, I have no reason at all to pick up this years phone as I have not missed one since the 4, but I'm still considering it. I see so many people still happy with the 5 series in their hands, I almost wish I was able to have that same mentality.

I am sure that the Iphone that will be released after this one's in September will be drop dead gorgeous with a ton of new features and a modern design. What has taken Apple so long to get it going? When you look around the phone world, you can spot bezel minimum phones with great battery life, super resolution, OIS, wireless charging, expandable storage and other features. Could it be that Jonny Ive has been given too much leeway in designing? Sure, we like thin phones, but we also like better battery life and the other features. The Galaxy S7 is a killer phone, so is the HTC 10. The Nexus phones will be great also. I will come back to Apple when they give me a great phone again. Wouldn't it be great if they ramped up their production and released the 2017 phone a lot earlier than Sept 2017?

If another phone looks better, buy that phone. Apple will release the phones they release when they are ready. The current crop of IPhones are excellent for me and millions and millions of others.

Geez, I was just thinking ... IF Apple doesn't release an over-the-moon, out-of-the-park iPhone in 2017 - MR will probably have to go to moderating comments before they get posted on the forum threads.

that would be nice. The negativity has made the forums almost useless and unreadable.

If they did that, I'm sure you would just be complaining about having to wait on the 2018 iPhone.

I went through a point of being irritated but I am now just excited for the next watch. Save money on a phone this year, spend it on a stainless watch

13 months turns into a long time when nobody is really sure what Appls plans are. Might be time to change strategy and cellphones.

Which is why Apple ties the customer in to their ecosystem.

The same coworker I mentioned earlier has iPads as well as iPhones. She uses iMessage heavily and has Apple ID's tied both to iTunes and the App store.

She would not be inclined to swap to "other choices" if there was only a limited way to bring her content and data over.

Apple is in no danger of losing her and others like her as a customer, if she even notices the kinds of minute changes we all carry on about. Her phone does what she wants it to do and to her that is all that matters.

Agree. The ecosystem is the most precious thing Apple has. Thanks to that strong ecosystem it can leverage up-selling, cross-selling, re-purchases and services. It's much easier to sell anything to someone that is already a customer, than acquiring a new one.

It's something unique that only Apple has and it will be a big problem for lot of android manufacturers when the market (that is naturally slowing down), will be saturated, because these manufacturers don't own the ecosystem (google does indeed).

Yep...this is the first time I'm seriously considering the Samsung S7 Edge. I can always come back in 2 years. Apple stock is going to tank after this next keynote.

Google's problem (IMO) is that unlike Apple, they chose to split Android off from the devices it runs on - and now they have a popular ecosystem they do not directly control and no handset marketshare.

It damages the reputation of that ecosystem and gives them no credibility with customers when trying to increase sales of handsets.

Apple may be draconian in how they control their ecosystem but it was a smart decision to retain that control.

Hell even Microsoft doesn't have the taint of external control. People recognize that the crapware their PCs come with is from the manufacturer and not Microsoft. Google does not get that distinction when the handset manufacturers integrate Android into their software and control updates.

Even if I had an Iphone, I still use Google Maps, Google Mail, Google calendar and Google Search. I use Textra messaging app which I like. Imessage is fine, but no better than Textra. So the platform these apps are on need to be physically pleasing, great resolution, good sound and great battery life, with expandable storage. Thus my HTC 10 and Galaxy S7 Edge.
Precisely.

My iPhone experience is greatly improved thanks to the Google Ecosystem. Far better than iOS apps, Google assures accuracy, reliability, speed and functionality.

Chrome, Contacts, Mail, Calendar, Maps, Drive, Docs, Sheets, YouTube, News, Photos, Google Now, Google Keep, the list of highly essential extremely useful Google Products is amazing.

They make my iPhone nearly as good as my Primary smartphone of choice, that's my stellar Nexus 6P.

Thanks Google :D
