I think the 6S is possibly the most overrated apple phone there has ever been and one of the smallest upgrades ever over its predecessor, with the other candidate being the 11 (over the XR)
iPhone 6S(+) was night and day difference compared to its predecessor - mainly due to the fact that it was impossible to keep more than two Safari tabs open on iPhone 6 due to its pathetic 1GB of RAM

Hardly. It had 1 new feature over the 6 that was subsequently deprecated. A truly pathetic upgrade. Meanwhile 5S to 6 was a huge upgrade

There was more than one ‘pathetic’ features difference between the 6 and 6S. Just admit it, you never owned or used one.
I went from a 6 to a 7, as I never saw the point in upgrading to a 6S, as it was such a minimal upgrade. The one and only new feature, 3D Touch, at the time seemed like a gimmick (which turned out to be true) and I can assure you that nobody outside there forums would know or care whether or not it had more RAM than the 6

The 6S to the 7 is a demonstrably far larger upgrade, as was the 5S to the 6 and the 7 to the X (but not 8), if you are comparing what was and what wasn’t a big upgrade between consecutive iPhones from the mid 2010s

Some people on the forum seem to worship the 6S which is quite frankly very strange and as I’ve explained it is objectively one of the smallest upgrades ever

I skipped the 7 and got the 6S as I thought the 6S was a better upgrade and still at that point had a headphone Jack which enabled me two extra years use. The jump from a 6S to a 7 was minimal and ended up with the 7 being arguably the most disappointing release to date. The 7 lasted a long time though much like the 6S.

The 7 was a way bigger upgrade over the 6S than the 6S was over the 6. It had considerably more features as well as not looking exactly the same

I didn’t agree at the time hence why I skipped the 7. It didn’t offer enough for a significantly higher price and it was a decision I did not regret in the following years. The 6S was a great phone and there’s a reason it’s still considered one of the best iPhones Apple ever released. It’s what the 6 should have been.

So what was the “demonstrably far larger upgrade” offered by the 7 over the 6S? Are you referring Apple’s “courage” in removing the headphone jack?

The 6S offered a far more resilient shell than the 6 using higher quality aluminium, had twice the RAM, provided a generational leap in performance with the A9 over the A8, Touch ID 2 and the Taptic Engine which is still used in the 14 Pro along with an improved camera.

The 7 was an underwhelming release by all accounts and provided minimal upgrade over the 6S. The improvements include a marginal increase in performance over the A9 with the A10, capacitive Touch ID, an improved camera and better battery life.

Also no headphone jack.

Apple ended support for the 6S and 7 at the exact same time too despite the 6S being a year older.

The 7 had real new features such as water resistance (a very big deal at the time), the A10 Fusion chip which was a huge improvement over the A9, stereo speakers, a much better camera (and was the first to include more than 1 camera lens on the plus), a new home button and somewhat different design on the rear and increased base storage for the first time since 2010

The 6S was pretty much exactly the same as the 6, apart from RAM which nobody cares about. I kind of get the impression that some people still haven’t got over the removal of the headphone jack and for that reason glorify the 6S and downplay how much of an upgrade the 7 was over it. Meanwhile the 6 was absolutely groundbreaking and one of the most memorable and large upgrades, up there with the original, the 4 and the X

The fact they were both dropped at the same time means nothing. I actually think Apple should have shown more courage and dropped all pre A12 iPhones for ios16

Seems like you’re part of the minority in the belief that the 7 provides more than an iterative update over the 6S. The A10 Fusion is a minor upgrade over the A9 when compared to the A9 vs the A8. I suppose it is one of the reasons why both the 6S and 7 were dropped simultaneously by Apple after iOS 15.7.

The 6S also does have water resistance however the feature was not advertised by Apple. There any many videos on YouTube clarifying this fact.

I don’t have any hate towards the 7 because I have the 8 also which is the best iteration of that style of phone prior to the SE2 and SE3. The 7 just isn’t an interesting phone and there wasn’t much discussion about it when it was new and very few people care to talk about it now. The only talking point that people cared about was the lack of headphone jack which was a big negative rather than a positive.

The 6S, on the other hand, still has a large fanfare to this day and I personally feel like it’s one of the best iPhones Apple has ever released.

No S phone is interesting or has a “fanfare” as you put it. End of discussion

It's clear that KOTN91 cares more about outside appearance and showstopper new features than the actual specs and capabilities. I think that's true for most people really.

But as someone who hangs on to their devices the lagginess of the A8 chip vs the snappiness of the A9 chip was night and day. Being stuck on iOS 12 vs going to iOS 15 is also a big plus.

the 7 modem wasn't as good as the 6S

Nah, it’s clear that Cotton wants to troll but in such a way that the weasel dude doesn’t issue him a warning.

It’s still talked about as one of the best iPhones to date so it might be ‘end of discussion’ for you, but not for others.
It really isn’t. It’s totally forgotten about. The most memorable iPhones are the original, the 4, the 6 and the X, and to a lesser extent the 5 and 12. The 6S is pretty much a nonentity

For daring to insult the holy 6S, revered by those who still miss the headphone socket?

It’s an iPhone that pops up in discussion fairly often and 7 years after it was released. It’s discussed in here and throughout the tech world in articles from time to time because it was such a good phone and had perhaps the longest iOS support of any iPhone to date.

It’s worth pointing out that you’re actually on a thread discussing the 6S in comparison to modern iPhones and telling people it’s completely forgotten about. As ironic as that sounds.

What I find amusing with this is that the 6S was even brought up this year. Chris Evans even ditched his 6S only after having severe battery issues. An actor who could obviously easily afford any phone or upgrade. It was a great iPhone and as The Real Deal said it best: "it was what the 6 should've been".

You bring up the 6 specifically as honorable mention over the 6S.

The 6 brought touch disease:

Also the 6 was 3.3x more bendable than the 5S:

My 6s max is still going strong as a kids entertainment device. Great phone! I really like the 13 pro and would swap to a 13pro max given the opportunity. I really like where the 13 lineup is and could see it being relevant for many years.

I'm a 13 PM owner that didn't upgrade to the 14 PM. Why? Apple offered terrible trade in prices for devices that weren't base storage 13 PMs. Also, I left the iUP plan and paid for this with my Apple CC. Because of that, I'm determined to keep this phone for a very long time. May help that I'm getting a little older and hopefully a little smarter too.

I lucked out with this phone. 155 cycles and I'm still at 102.8% capacity.

The 6s was a great phone. We went from the 6s to the 8+. Great great phone. That phone got me through several years of heavy Ingress (game that was not easy on phones).

The non S version is the beta model. The S version is the final version of that model. Some prefer to be the first adopter knowing all the problems come with beta model. Some prefer to have the final version with all the problem fixed. - the owner of 4s, 6s and 13 mini 😁

I sold 13 Pro Max so that I could have a taste of Dynamic Island, and to my dismay, it's really nothing more than there is...

So I sold it and went back to the trusty ol 13 Pro Max! ;)

I see nothing that would make me want to swap my 13 max for a 14 max, and I have had a new iPhone every years since the 4S.
The pill looks dumb imo.
