Is $329 an appropriate price?

Let me know how it works out when you have a problem with your Nexus 7 and you try to take it to the Asus or Google Store to get it fixed.

It would also destroy their bottom line.

I honestly don't give a schit about Apple's bottom line. A quality product that does what I want at the best price is what's important to me.

Sometimes it's Apple, sometime it isn't. Our household currently has 6 Apple devices. But I don't have a blind loyalty to them. If they charge a higher price than what I'm willing to spend, I'll move on. It doesn't make them a bad company. It doesn't make me a stupid customer.

For the specs and price you outlined, the decision would be made easy . I'd get a 32gb Nexus 7 for $250 every day of the week

I have a Nexus 7 and it's a great device, but holy smokes that browser doesn't perform as well as Apple devices, especially iPad 2's I've tested on.

And don't get me started on the build quality. The Nexus is cheap and it feels like it. It creaks and pops, the glass and whole frame flex and it comes away from the frame. The upside is that I feel better about tossing a $200 device in my backpack and it wouldn't be as big of a hit to get it stolen while traveling.

It's fun, and the latest Android OS is VERY slick, with many features I like better than iOS. But in performance (including overall fluidity of the OS) and build quality, it doesn't hold a candle to Apple's offerings.

I am anxious to test the mini. We'll see if they make the back as slippery as a wet bar of soap (again).

That's fine and good. But the person I was responding to said

However, imagine what would happen if they priced it at $250 or even $200.

Thus the reason for the line about their bottom line. That is why it isn't practical to see an iPad at $200 or $250. They make the vast majority of their money on the hardware. They don't subsidize the cost of the device with content or ad sales on the back end like Amazon and Google. That is not an argument as to why you should buy one. If you don't want it....don't get it (I'm not...FWIW).

Just trying to point out that Apple's price points are generally going to be a bit higher than their competition and the reason as to why.

These will be under a lot of christmas trees. The price is right says Bob Barker.

There could have been one under every tree if the price was right. This is old tech in the thing, if they want to charge "premium" prices then bring a "premium" product. You can't rely on you OS to carry you forever.

I was really expecting them to hit that $299 pricepoint. It's only $30 cheaper but psychologically, it's a big difference.

LOL. This price is outrageously high. Thanks for the A5 processor and poor display Apple :(

I've got a Nexus 7 and love it. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to have a tablet this size.

I don't know about that... After tax, it's still a lot of money. I'd be looking at around $371... That just leaves me wondering if I should just spend the extra money and purchase a regular iPad.

Personally... I think Apple screwed themselves with the iPod Touch pricing, and it left them in this position. They couldn't make the iPad Mini cheaper than the new iPod Touch's.

This device should be priced around $250, and I'd be first one in line to purchase one. They'd be selling like hot pockets around that price.

I agree! Making it $299 would have enticed a lot more buyers. But then, I'm sure Apple already knows they will sell this like crazy.

Every industry has different price points, whether it's cars, food, furniture, or phones. You can say all cars are the same (They all have an engine and four wheels, don't they?) or you can recognize that differences which might not matter to you will matter to other people. Even if you think those differences are stupid, it doesn't mean that Apple has the problem you're implying.

Considering the mini ipad is a knee/jerk reaction to the kindle fire, and its actually more like a mini ipad 2, the people that the differences make a difference to might not even agree with your point. It should have retina and it should have an a6. Considering its a newer device with older tech at a higher price point than the rest of the market i think users will start to ask the question "is it worth buying a mini ipad?" the only reason i could justify is that your married to the apple eco system and dont want to look elsewhere. But then you have to ask is the retina mini coming out in 6 months?
