OP,

I'll repeat what I said before: I think some people here are just letting out some bottled aggression.

I understand your frustration - I've had the same thing happen to me before on eBay, but there's no reason to personally attack the man and try to make him feel "ashamed." That's just ridiculous.

OP, it was wrong, you wasted the Seller's time, and possibly money. Don't do it again. Buy when you commit to buy. - Does anything more than this really need to be said? You guys are going after him like it's a damn witch hunt.

Try some relaxation techniques or smoke a bowl, but Christ you act as though he made insults against your children. I can hear it now "But Ax, he did insult my children - he wasted time and money I could have spent with them"

you obviously don't sell much on ebay or you'd see where i'm coming from.......this is a daily event and NOTHING happens to these buyer's. Again, ebay isn't a game like all newbies think. They think they can bid and if they don't want it they just don't pay. This is real people's time and money....some people do this as their only means of income and he's making them lose time and money.

In the words of Ron White "oh no, I GET it."

I completely understand. Yes, the OP needs to be informed of the rules and requirements, and yes he should understand it does waste time and money - I'm not disputing that.

But to verbally attack him (I don't think you personally did) is completely uncalled for. He shouldn't be "ashamed."

He should recognize his mistake and not repeat it.

Edit: You actually handled it perfectly. You told him why it was wrong, and the repercussions. Others however, to whom I was addressing my comments, were unnecessarily rude.

I was the one that said he should be ashamed and I stand by that. That post was written admitedly in an agitated state and directed more towards all the people that do this kind of thing. And yes he should be ashamed if he does back out of it, he's breaking the law and as such should be ashamed of himself. He *should* feel bad. The fact that if he does back out (which he shouldn't do because its a good deal and it'd be the wrong thing to do) and gets away with it doesn't mean he wouldn't be breaking the law.

I know its a completely different thing but if you were to drive drunk and run over and kill a dog but not get caught, you might not get punished for your crime but you would still have broken the law and should be ashamed of yourself. Obviously that example's a different level but my point is this, break the law, be ashamed. And yes, I've broken the law several times before and yes I have been ashamed of myself.

At no point did I verbally attack him, I told him he was in the wrong, told him to do the right thing and gave him advice on how good a deal he was getting.

Yeah the guy made a mistake and admits it. he is a newbie to eBay and got nervous with the money he has been saving for a while. he figured out AFTER the sale that he could get a better deal with a little more cash and backed out which was WRONG but i think we should cut him some slack this time and just advice him to apologize, offer to pay the restocking fee and NOT to do it again. right?:)

...my point is this, break the law, be ashamed. And yes, I've broken the law several times before and yes I have been ashamed of myself.

Seriously? I break the law every single day, be it in the form of speeding or taking part in "recreational activities" and I in now way way feel ashamed, nor should I.

That emotion should only come from a moral or humanitarian concern, not because some piece of legislation was violated. If he feels bad, it should be because he inconvenienced someone, not be because the law was broken.

That's true. It depends on how major the crime is for you to feel ashamed. I wouldn't feel ashamed if I were speeding or throw trash out the window of the car but I would feel ashamed if I stole something from a store/somebody. In this case, he should be ashamed because he made it troublesome for the seller not because he got scared and backed out on the deal. :)

once again, I DO FEEL VERY BAD for my mistake. I am a newbie on ebay and I HAVE LEARNED A LESSON FROM THIS EXPERIENCE. I followed the advise in this thread and have started to make arrangements to pay any fees that the seller may have incurred due to my ignorance. I would like to thank everyone for their advise and comments on this matter...they have been very informative and helpful .
