Played about 3 hours of that game yesterday for the first time on my PS3. So far it's pretty good. :D

Lucky, I didn't get the PS3 beta invite. /: I've been on the PC beta since alpha though and previously I was a part of the Beta in 1.0.

Get the 15", at least you'll have a reason to hit the gym. :)

I am. Tomorrow/today, hopefully.

The problem is, I found a completely new sealed 15" rMBP for 1850 on ebay, whilst the same refurbished model is 1599 (1720~) with tax in the Apple Store.

Should I still go refurbished?

It's up to you. It's $130 difference. Remember that with ebay you don't have Apple's simple return policies. Also depending on who is selling the warranty may already be in progress. For example if the person purchased it from a retail store then decided they didn't want it, the warranty would have started from their time of purchase. Buying from Apple or an authorized reseller means it starts from when you buy it. Purchases made on ebay could be authorized retailers. If they aren't it started from the initial sale. Given that it's still cheaper from Apple, I know what I would do there. You're clearly bothered by refurbished status, so I can't really tell you what to do.

If refurbished bothers you that much, then don't get it. But getting refurbished from Apple is pretty much like brand new. Not sure what else we can tell you.

The notebooks have to be tested in the factory... So if you expect to be the first who pushes the power button of a virgin Apple notebook, then beware that someone did it before you :D

ebay for more, or apple refurb for less

refurb no question

solely for the sake of being from apple not ebay, let alone how good refurbs generally are

If you're made of straw, yes.

If you're a human being, no.

LOL

Seriously - when did 4lb become to heavy to carry? Do people not realize that all the college kids who carried laptops last year are still alive?

My Dell XPS laptop is close to 7lbs and I carry it in a tumi messenger laptop bag (secure but heavy) as well as other things. I've done this for several years and travel with it weekly.

For anyone to ask if 4 or even 5lbs is heave is just :(:eek:

Just curious..

Also, do I still get the one-year warranty if I purchase from Amazon?

If I get the 13" model.. I'm going with Amazon since I'm not taxed there. With Apple's Store I'll be paying like $120 I think... even with education discount it will be around $1500 and on Amazon it's only $1419..

Absolutely not. And anyone telling you otherwise.. just lol.

I used to carry around my 18.4" Alienware which was nearly 24 pounds with the power supply. It still wasn't very bad at all.

This thing is literally like paper. Don't even worry about it.

I'm very serious and apparently you're primarily surprised that your opinion isn't the only one out there.

You really can't be serious dude.

I'm not worried about size or weight anymore.

I'm a bit concerned that the BTS promo hasn't started yet so it leaves me wondering what Apple is waiting for.. :(

It'll probably start in August. It's not really that big of a deal either now, they give you $100 towards the app store (and there's not a whole lot of good in there, even for iOS now other then games).

That's not the point.

The point is.. they haven't started it yet.. Does that mean the new rMBP is going to be released at any time now?

I carry mine around campus all the time. I don't think it's heavy at all - it weighs less than most of my textbooks.

I have a case with an attachable shoulder strap for it and a messenger bag I use to carry it in when I'm carrying other stuff too. Even on one shoulder, it's not heavy.

I was already leaning towards the 13-inch but I checked out both at the Apple store today. Ditto all the above comments, the 15 was way too big for me. 13 felt like the perfect size.

But I think it depends on the individual.

School doesn't start for nearly 2 months for most people. Most places have barely been out a month.

Give it time.

My first macbook was a 13" blackbook and I loved it. Then my brother-in-law bought an 08 15" pro and I was hooked. Bought a 15" unibody pro a few years ago and recently upgraded to a rMBP. 15" of course. I love having this much screen real-estate, but it isn't for everyone especially if portability is number 1.

I was used to carrying around this during my college years, though.

And as for a refurb. Go for it. They are literally brand new machines from apple. I'd trust them more then an ebay purchase.

I just got my refurb 15" rMBP today and as many other have said, aside from the box you would not know its refurbished. Also I don't think it would be an issue carrying it around school.

When I went to school, we had to carry books and notepads... TrapperKeepers even, haha. Why not get a mobility scooter or a Segway while you're at it, so you don't have to walk anywhere, either?
