i was going to get a keyboard cover for my macbook pro, but idk it might be overkill. I already have a clear see thru speck case! just asking for opinions and if you guys recommend any certain keyboard covers? also can you notice its on. is it a big difference.

If you have to wonder, then yes, you will probably benefit from using one.

I have a Moshi on every MacBook Pro/Air and think it's grrrrrrreat.

I use one from time to time. It takes a little bit to get used to having it on as the keys don't feel as nice and snappy. When I take it off and just use the keyboard normally, it is hard to bring myself to put it back on.

true but when one spends 2 grand on a computer, theres pride in keeping ur expensive investment in mint condition.

Also how much did u sell ur 3 year old macbook pro for?

$900. I started at $1100 the first of November but I never attracted any serious buyers. I originally paid between $1500-$1600 new; I got it soon after the first unibody MBPs became available.

It's only over kill if you think it is. Like you said, you paid over $2,000 for it, you might as well keep it looking nice. I use the wired aluminum keyboard but before I used it, I used my MacBook Pro's keyboard just long enough to make all the keys shiny. I wish I would have used a cover.

Lemme just say this... I'm not really a clumsy person, yet I've had 2 spills. One in a 2010 Pro, the other on a 2011 Air. It can cost like $500 to fix damage caused by spills through the keyboard. If you don't have insurance or some sort of protection policy that covers water damage, a keyboard cover is NOT overkill.

Just look at how much you spent on the Mac. Probably $1,000+++ right? A little keyboard cover isn't overkill for a large investment/important tool/modern-day necessity.

i actually prefer the feel of a keyboard cover now after getting used to it. also if you have a 7200 rpm drive in the optibay a keyboard cover reduces the sound by a noticeable amount.

thats why you get ssd's! :D i know, i spoil myself.

all arguments aside and childish behavior on this post, id at least try it. its great when your not using it as well as when your using it. like i said, sometimes it gets in the way so just take it off. i use mine about 90% of the time.

I definitely don't think it's overkill, with what I paid for my machine, I want to keep it in tip top shape, from protecting the keys from wear, to preventing internal damage if a spill were to happen. I think that for 20 bucks, my Moshi Clearguard is great and I actually enjoy typing with it now. I would highly advise getting one being as it's such a small price to pay for protection.Best of luck!

When I buy a new laptop like my 17" 2011 MacBook Pro, it's for me to enjoy. Not for whom I might sell it to at a later date. Sure the keys get a bit shiny, but I see it as proof that I am using & enjoying my computer.

Not once, has anyone been concerned about shiny keys on a used computer. I keep mine scratch & dent free, clean them regularly so the displays remain flawless, and have a simple rule. I never put a drink down next to my MBP.

Ask yourself, did you buy it to obsess over keeping it perfect for the next guy? Or is it yours to enjoy?

Nothing stays perfect forever.
