Post Secondary Education Plans

The other thing to consider is what your plans are after high school. If you are planning on going to college, then a sup'd up MBP & big monitor would be better for you now, as it would probably last you through most of college (make sure to buy the next one while you still are a student!)

However, if you are looking to go into the work force after high school you should go for the MP, since you will be able to take that to your office and recycle-it to your first employee when you get a new one.

just my thoughts.

I've been looking at purchasing a Mac Pro for quite a while now, but have always been slightly frightened of the price tag, so I wanted to bring the question to you guys.

I'm a student in high school, and have been running and independent media creation studio for a couple years now. I photograph and film events for people, as well as editing other people's images and video, compiling DVD's, slideshows, etc., and doing other small media jobs (converting VHS to DVD and such).

I've quickly outgrown the processing power and maximum RAM specs on my 20" Core Duo iMac, and have been looking for a new machine. Of course, the Mac Pro came immediately to mind. The upgradability and processing power is perfect for the work I do in Photoshop and Final Cut, but the price may be a little high.

I do realize that this computer may last me many years, but I need to know whether it would be worth it to purchase a Mac Pro in my scenario.

What do you all think?

If you have the money then it sounds like to you need it. Maybe wait to see if the new iMac will offer you something more that might be cheaper for you.

Well, I think I've almost made my decision. Looking at the way business is going right now, I realize I will need portability quite a bit, so I'm probably going to go for a souped up MBP with the 4GB of RAM and a 30" Dell 3007WFP when I'm at my desk.

However, depending on possible price drops for the new iMacs, it might end up being a 24" iMac and then a MacBook for portability.

Still knowing me, this plan will change 10 times before I make the decision ;)
