i use a program called fan control and ive dropped the base speed to 1100rpm and it of course will rise as the cpu temperature increases.

That's weird. I thought apps like Fan Control and smcFanControl wouldn't let you drop the base speed below whatever Apple set the speeds to.

lets put it this way... if you are in a quiet room by yourself can you hear your laptop make any noise? or if you put your ear to it?

I've noticed a slight noise as well, but that noise is accentuated based on the environment. For instance, if I'm in the library will slight background noise, I can barely hear the fans. However, if I'm in my room and it's dead quiet, then I can hear the fans spinning ever so slightly. I've also found that the noise is more noticeable on hard surfaces.

In the end, I don't think it's an issue because I have listen very carefully to hear them. Perhaps a quick clean to remove dust will solve the problem?

okay guys... i just noticed that when my right hand is over the laptop to type the sound goes away but when i lift my hand from the right part next to the track pad i can notice the sound... what is that?

my macbook (white) runs at 17xx rpm when browsing etc, but when temps get higher it goes up, when im burning etc it goes up to around 5k.

1.7k-2k rpm is hard to hear, its virtually quiet. at night when im in bed and its sooo quiet, i can hear my processor over my fans lol

Fan problem, possibly. Someone help!

I downloaded fan control on september 5th or so then today I uninstall it. Then called apple, since I have apple care. The guy told me to reinstall OS X because my fan revs up to 3000 RPM making a low/medium revving noise, like whirring. So now everything is back to orginal state of when I first bought it. THe thing is...the fan:

Optical Drive: 1103 to 1105
Hard Drive: 1104 to 1105
CPU Fan: 1401 to 1501

No matter how many applications I've opened up, it stays the same. Is that normal? LOL. Or did the fans stopped working? Someone help!

the only time I have heard the fans go loud is when I play a DVD and when it is ejecting the CD, it makes a lot of noise!

macbook pro 15'' mid2009 noise

okay guys... i just noticed that when my right hand is over the laptop to type the sound goes away but when i lift my hand from the right part next to the track pad i can notice the sound... what is that?
On my macbook pro 15'' mid2009 I just noticed the same thing ...
it's easy to pay attention in a quiet room ... there is
constant noise from the right part ... it's not too loud but noticeable with
the time and after 2 hours it starting to disturb ...

What is surprising is when you are putting hand to the right
part next to the track pad this sound really goes away ...
it becoming really silent then ... and main fan is still working !
yet it is quieter then that ...

it seems that this noise is coming from something else ....
Any one else has noticed that?

Is it Hdd or second fan? how much fans this machine has?
Is it normal? If you press the surface a bit and it disappears, the question
is how it supposed to be? ...
any way I would prefer without it, unless it's really necessary ...
